Installing a battery temperature sensor (BTS) will likely save you money by extending the service life of the battery. It prevents overcharging in warm temperatures and undercharging in cold temperatures. With a BTS monitoring the battery temperature, the voltage delivered to the battery is adjusted according to the battery’s actual temperature. The short answer is no, you don’t need one; however, if you are exposing the battery to temperature extremes a BTS is a worthwhile addition to your power system.
