This auction is for a hand-carved wooden sculpture of a woman in a yoga pose. It is a lovely abstract piece, with some very delicate work on the earrings and bracelet. The statue is carved from suar wood, a beautiful tropical hardwood. These statues stand approximately 11 to 12 inches tall, and 7 to 8 inches wide. More pictures are listed below. One of the main features of this sculpture is the delicate work on the earrings and bracelet, which must have required a very steady hand to carve. Neither the earrings or the bracelet are directly attached to the main sculpture - they hang loose and move around! (Please note that in many cases, if you look very closely, you can see a seam where they glued a bracelet or earring back together. This is very fine work, and requires careful inspection to even notice. It does not detract from the overall beauty of the piece. I just wanted to disclose this information as a matter of honesty.)
As you can see, the midsection of the woman's body is just negative space. The torso seems to float over the legs, but is cleverly attached by the arms and chin. Please click a few of the photos to see the full sized images.
Suar wood is a sustainable tropical hardwood, which is renowned for art carving due to its great beauty and its superior resistance to cracking. Note the rich color and fine grain of the wood, it really is quite lovely.
NOTE: I have several of these to sell, and I am using the same pictures for each auction to save time. So the one you get may not be one of the exact figures shown in the pictures. However, they are all very similar, and all come from the same woodcarvers guild. I have included photographs several of these statues, below, so you can see how they differ only slightly in appearance. Each piece is guaranteed to be of equal quality to what you see here.
