Here’s yet another great Yaesu hybrid transceiver in very good condition. This FT-101ZD still performs perfectly given its age. Even with the technology available when it was produced, it’s really kinda’ fun to use, if only for old times sake! I’m making some major changes to my radio activities, and I need to find a new home for this rig.
If you are looking for an FT-101ZD, you need no introduction, you know the specs, and the performance this transceiver is capable of.
If you’re trying to make a decision, most Yaesu fans will tell you that the FT-101ZD was a great success for Yaesu, a top-end transceiver in its time, and is still a highly desirable radio even today. Take a minute to read the several reviews at http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/2616. Fox Tango International presents a brief history of the FT-101ZD at http://foxtango.org/ft101zd/FT-101ZD.htm. Many other web sites have information about this radio, and they are certainly worth a look.
The Serial # of this rig is 9F 070503, and it has been my backup radio for the past year or so. I still use it quite often, however, both "barefoot", and to easily drive a legal-limit linear amplifier. Power out – key down - is close to 150 watts on all bands (except about 130 watts on 10 meters). The receiver is very sharp and sensitive. With the optional CW filter (XF8.9HC), you get Selectivity at 600 Hz using the CW-N Mode. You can easily sort out the signals with the Width control, and the Clairifier control will let you move either or both RX and TX frequencies a little more than 5 kHz…good for operating in many split frequency situations.
Electrically, this radio is in excellent condition, suffering only from the usual VFO drift during warm-up from a cold start. All knobs are original, all controls are fully functional, the main tuning is very smooth, and frequency display is absolutely accurate. Transmit audio is excellent - even with the hand mike - given the many unsolicited reports I have received. Every feature of this rig has been "tested" quite often "on the air", and I have not found any problems, whether chasing DX, or meeting with the "gang" on 40 meters.
Cosmetically, it is a good 8, maybe better, both inside and out. Paint is all original and unmarked except for a few small nicks on the top, back edge of the front panel. I replaced all case screws with a nickel-plated variety – I just didn’t care for the original gray screws for some reason.
Given proper setup, operation, and care, this transceiver should provide many more years of service, whether used daily, or just occasionally as a backup rig.
I am including the A/C power cord (with that impossible to find plug!!), a remote cable for amp switching (without ALC), the standard Yaesu hand mike, an original operating manual, and the original, gray case screws.
IF YOU CAN USE A GREAT FT-101ZD, I HOPE YOU WIN THE AUCTION!
GOOD LUCK!
...and now for the fine print that you should definitely read!

Thanks for looking! And again, Good Luck!! 73 Jim On Jul-19-08 at 15:40:00 PDT, seller added the following information:After answering a question, and taking a second look at the original pic's, I added another picture that shows the display much better. I set the frequency to one that contained as many 8's as possible so all segments of each module would be lit.
Also, the shipping calculator appears to calculate shipping costs fairly close. But if the winner will hold payment for a few minutes, I will check the costs one final time to the winner's ZIP and send them by e-mail.
Thanks again, and Good Luck!!
