Yamaha A1S 4'11" Silent Series
Another Great Piano! Featured here is the rarely offered Yamaha A1S "Silent Series" This piano was purchased new in 1999 and is in pristine condition. It should be made known that this is not the 4'11" Yamaha that is offered today (the GA1E) which is made in China but the A1 made in Japan. When this piano first came out it was as expensive as the C1. Due to the price the piano did not sell very well even though it was every bit the quality of Yamaha's "C" series. It was discontinued around 2002 and replaced by the much inferior model now produced in China selling for half the cost. If you compare th two you will see there is nothing in common except for the "foot print" or dimensions. The construction is completely different. If you were to look at the design of the "plate" ( the iron frame to which the strings are attached) the A1 is much heavier and identical in design to Yamaha's C series. The GA1 (from China) is mucher lighter and full of openings to reduce cost. The reason is the the way the piano is manufactured is with less wood and bracing.
SILENT SERIES
Once the piano is muted with a lever under the keyboard the "Silent Series" option permits the pianist to play silently with headphones. The onboard sound module produces the sound of a Yamaha 9' Concert Grand. You can even send that signal to an external speaker or record the piano into a computer. Keep in mind this piano is not a player piano as the recordings will play back over the computer itself or any other Midi instrument. Those of you familiar with Midi, this piano will also act as a controller.
CONDITION
The condition of this piano is MINT it was owned privately and shows very minimal wear. All strings and harware show no oxidation and the soundboard is perfect with no ridges or cracks. The exterior or case is perfect with no damage. The action is nice and tight with no sloppiness which is more common with a well worn piano.
