If you are familiar with Yamaha's very elite "S"series then you are aware that they are Yamaha's very best "Hand Built" grand pianos. Being at the extreme high end of the piano price range they are rarely seen or available on the pre-owned market. Yamaha has 3 models currently in production, the S4 6'4" the S6 6'11"and the CFIII 9'. In the past there was also the CS (and CSII) which were very similar to the CFIII only a little shorter at 8'3" (we also have one in stock). Even more obscure is the limited edition Yamaha S700 7'6" which was in limited production for a short period of time. Today the piano can be ordered new and custom built by Yamaha. There was a reference to it I found on the internet of it costing $250,000 but I have found no confirmation of this price and am working on additional information. "S" series Yamaha Grand pianos are hand built in a separate facility off the assembly line where the more common and less expensive "C" series are built. They are constructed entirely different only sharing action components and brass hardware. Their cases contain only finest woods including the rim which is made with maple. Maple is an extremely hard and dense wood much better suited for sound projection and sustain. The more common "C" series are built with rims made of mahogany a much softer wood resulting in less resonance and projection. The entire scale design of the S700 as well as construction is a lesson in extreme piano manufacturing resulting in a piano thats built to last several lifetimes without tone degradation. Photographs of the interior and underside are the only way to explain the differences from the common C7. In playing the piano it will knock your socks off! I have never heard a bass roll out of a piano with the volume and sustain of this one except for the much larger CS and CF. What this piano will give you is the performance of a 9' in a smaller more manageable package. Rather than go on and on here, research the Yamaha "S"series on Yamaha's website and you'll see why the piano stands apart from the rest. Currently the S6 retails for approximately $65k and the CFIII at $100k although still expensive as it is offered here, this S700 is a great value. This condition of this piano is as new as it was owned privately (as most "S" series Yamaha Grands). Take your time viewing the pictures and compare them to a C7. Then you can partially appreciate the pianos differences.

Keep in mind this piano was not offered here in the United States due to it's expense. The only way you would be able to buy one would be to order it from the Yamaha factory in Hamamatsu Japan and import it here yourself. Yamaha Corporation of America will tell you they will not offer parts (they would rather you buy a piano from a local franchise) however the S700 shares all the same parts as any Yamaha grand except for the plate which will never fail having been constructed of cast iron.
