I am selling my beloved Yamaha YC-45D. It has gotten too heavy for me. I have owned 3 Yamaha YC series organs and this is the cleanest most functioning one I have owned. Everything works perfectly except for the Trombone 16' tab on the upper manual and the bass section has a problem in bass mode where all notes below C# sound a C#. Everything else is perfect and functioning properly. Physically the knob is missing for the bass selector switch, there are some cracks and scratches in the wood grain top. It appears as though about 11 keys in on the border of the bass/treble section have been scraped, the black keys look like they were painted black again. You can see this in one of the photos below. Overall there are no tolex tears on the organ, there are 3 small rips on the lid and the tolex is peeling off on one corner of the lid. Besides some scratches in the tolex here and there it is in overall great shape. I do not have the legs for this organ. These don't come up very often. I haven't seen one this year besides an untested one last week.
The YC-45D is renowned for being the most versatile and feature laden combo organ. It can sound like a Vox Continental, can do a decent Hammond including key click and my favorite is how it sounds overdriven. It features a "portamento strip" that essentially functions as a Theremin.
I would prefer local pick up in Los Angeles. I am willing to ship it but I plan on packing it very securely if I have to ship it and it may be out of the weight and size limits of UPS or FedEx. I have shipped via Forward Air and had no problems with them, they were actually cheaper than UPS or FedEx however they only ship to airports, so you would have to drive to the local airport and pick it up. Here is a link to their site listing the airports they ship to: http://www.forwardair.com/locations/falocations.htm I am open to suggestions on another way to ship it. I am also going to charge for the full amount of all the packing materials. I would assume that to be around $50. If you are in the Los Angeles and would like to check out the YC-45 just drop me a line.
Here is a description from combo-organ.com: http://www.combo-organ.com/Yamaha/yamaha.htm
The "Cadillac" version. Has most of
the features of both the YC-30, and the YC-25D, plus the
following additional features: Upper Manual - 5-1/3', Kinura 8',
Piano, Harpsichord, Vibraphone, Sustain 8', 4', Marimba, Piano,
Harpsichord, Attack Mute, Percussion 16', 4', 2', 1. Bass -
Tromba. Pitch ribbon: Slide Trombone, Squawk, Birds, Astro. The
upper keyboard has 61keys, and the lower manual has 42 Treble
keys and 19(!?!) Bass keys which can be switched to extend the
Treble section.
Note that in addition to the fact that the pitch ribbon is NOT
the same as the portamento strip n the YC-30, it's function is also different.
Rather than the plain flute voices, it controls the Slide Trombone, Squawk,
Birds and Astro voices. Slide Trombone and Squawk are bright organ-like
voices, Birds sounds like chirping, and Astro is sort of a ring-modulator
effect. The range of the pitch ribbon is 3 octaves.
The YC-45D uses the same tiltable stand as the
YC-30.
Date introduced: 1972. In 1977, the YC-45D
list price was $2,975.
Weighs in at a hefty 132lbs!
This is a recording I used the YC-45D on. It is a cover of The Sunrays "I Live For The Sun"
Test of all keys, vibrato and portamento strip
Test of some of the different features.
The Vox sound.
Through a Hughes & Kettner Rotosphere.
Overdriven!
The broken bass section. It works fine when switched to treble though.
A video I found on youtube.
On May-07-08 at 16:14:09 PDT, seller added the following information:
I got some quotes today on shipping. UPS will charge $215 to ship the organ to the east coast and FedEx will charge $170. Forward Air would be cheaper in my experience, probably closer to $100. There will be no insurance via either UPS or FedEx as the organ is not replaceable. I plan on padding the organ with 4" of bubble wrap on each side if it isn't sold locally.
