In this auction we have(1) 1.1 Lbs package of Amanda Brand yerba mate, a traditionally shaped China White ceramic mate drinking vessel with the Amada Brand Logo. It is glazed inside and out. Included in this auction is a unique traditional spoon bombilla.

This commercially made bombilla and ceramic yerba mate drinking vessel are not artisan made but we felt they are very unique and embody the spirit of artisan work.

They are wonderful examples of Argentine manufacturing excellence.

In our travels through South America we have met and come to know the artisans whose work is being showcased in many of our auctions. We support the artisans and their efforts to provide a better quality of life for their families. We ask for your help in supporting the artisan movement.

THIS IS THE NATIONAL DRINK OF ARGENTINA

This yerba mate drinking vessel is made of white ceramic. It is used to drink a tea-like beverage called mate.

This modern ceramic drinking vessel is approximately 4.25 inches tall, 3 inches in diameter and holds 7-8 ounces of liquid. It is China White in color and has the amanda Brand Logo.

This unique spoon style Bombilla is nickel plated and has gold tone accents. It is curbed for ease of use, measures 7.50 inches long. It is very easy to clean, just rinse with warm water and a mild detergent.


Amanda Brand Yerba mate is packaged in Misiones, Argentina by Establecimiento Agricola Industrial La Cachuera S.A. This very popular brand of yerba mate has a robust flavor that is favorite of many traditional yerba mate drinkers.

Yerba Mate is an herb that is a traditional tea infusion used originally by the natives of South America. This tea-like beverage is consumed mainly in Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and southern Brazil. It is brewed from the dried leaves and stems of the Yerba Mate tree (Ilex paraguarensis).

The infusion is prepared from the leaves of the Mate tree, a native of the tropical rain forests of northeastern Argentina, eastern Paraguay and southern Brazil. The Yerba is placed into the mate or gourd and hot water is added to create the infusion. The infusion is consumed through a traditional bombilla or straw that strains the herb. This stimulating herbal drink is low on caffeine and carbohydrates and contains generous amounts of amino acids and antioxidants.

Yerba Mate reduces stress, boosts immunity, helps control appetite and stimulates the mind. Among many of the benefits enjoyed by drinking this infusion are improved digestion, cleansing of your blood and it slows aging. HOW TO CURE A MATE GOURD

  1. Fill your new mate gourd 3/4 of the way full with fresh Yerba Mate.
  2. Fill the mate gourd with hot (Not Boiling) water.
  3. Let the hot water absorb for 30 minutes.
  4. After 30 minutes, the water level will have gone down due to absorption. Add hot water to fill the mate gourd again.
  5. Let the gourd sit for 24 Hours.
  6. After 24 Hrs. remove the Yerba Mate and gently scrape the inside of the mate gourd with a small spoon to remove loose debris. (Be careful not to damage the thick membrane of the gourd)
  7. Wash the inside of the mate gourd with hot water (do not use soap!).
  8. Repeat steps 1 through 7 one more time and you are ready to use your mate.
