Interesting Z Scale USA Model Railroading Collection
A RAILFANTASTIC Z SCALE FREIGHT CAR ACF 51 Foot Center-Flow Covered Cylindrical Hopper
UNCLE WILL'S "FULL THROTTLE" "MAY '07" RELEASE
CSX CYLINDRICAL HOPPER SET
Dear Z Folks, I'm overjoyed to present this "May '07" CSX cylindrical hopper set to you! It's from a current "WDW Cylindrical Hopper Release," brought to you by "Full Throttle" and intended to expand the scope of our treasured Z Scale Hobby! This model is the culmination of a year's worth of research and effort by "Uncle Will's Full Throttle" and "Bowser Mfg." Here, at last, are the fruits of that labor. A brand new freight car style for Z Scale, an American Car and Foundry 51' Center-Flow Covered Cylindrical Hopper!
CSX CYLINDRICAL HOPPER
WDW (FT) #1018
After WWII, USA Railroads were increasingly called upon to haul new and unique "modern" products over long distances. In response, American Car and Foundry (ACF) designed a tank-type covered hopper car. The cylindrical shape allowed a better weight/volume ratio, plus the elimination of interior ledges, combined with hatches and outlets placed along a center-line, led to ACF's trademark "Center Flow" hoppers! Through the 1960's the "cylindricals" became omnipresent on our Nation's RR tracks, with many styles of hatches and outlets devised according to needs. Because the cars were compartmented, various loads could be carried in a single unit and some construction with aluminum reduced weight further. Here was a "Freight Car for the Future," ready to transport sugar, cement, sand, salt, fertilizers, many types of grains, coke, starch, feeds, chemicals and plastics!
CSX Transportation was formed on July 1, 1986 as a renaming of the Seaboard System Railroad and Chessie System, Inc. into one entity.
On June 23, 1997, CSX Transportation and Norfolk Southern filed a joint application with the Surface Transportation Board for authority to purchase, divide and operate the assets of the 11,000-mile Consolidated Rail Corporation (Conrail), which had been created in 1976 by bringing together several ailing Northeastern railway systems into a government-owned corporation. On June 6, 1998, the STB approved the CSX-Norfolk Southern application and set August 22, 1998, as the effective date of its decision. CSX acquired 42% of Conrail's assets (Norfolk Southern got the remaining 58%). As a result of the transaction, CSX's rail operations, through its new subsidiary New York Central Lines, grew to include some 3,800 miles of the Conrail system (predominantly the former New York Central Railroad). CSX began operating its trains on its portion of the Conrail network on June 1, 1999.

I sure hope you will enjoy this offering of cylindrical hoppers from "Uncle Will's Full Throttle!" Bowser has developed a wonderful new car for Z Scale using all their talents! A special multi-piece mold had to be concocted, and a unique paint-mix to create the sheen of the prototypes. The pad printing is crisp, minute and striking! There was much hand assembly in production as well! Great pains were taken to provide detail in Z Scale, and the tracking to which you have grown accustomed. The cars feature MT knuckle couplers for realism, quality and performance. So, don't be afraid to run them! This two-pack has two different reporting numbers, 226033 and 226058. We needed some new cars to start filling in the late 20th Century time period. Well, here we go. A super mid-sized, 51', harbinger of railcars to come, that will look great with the motive power from the 1960's and beyond.
As you can see, the crystal clear display boxes hold two cars, and are stackable! Inside, the cars are cradled in foam liners and there is model information printed on the colorful cardstock liner sleeve.
And yes, coupler prices and manufacturing costs have risen. The addition of new boxes, foams and liners have created a new element in expenses. I have done my best to absorb most of these factors and the relatively moderate charge for this new two-pack cylindrical hopper set is held at $52 with $5.50 added for USPS Priority mailing with confirmation. I hope you will take advantage of this "May '07 Release" and consider the commitments necessary to bring it to life. I know you will be pleased at the caliber and care taken to usher this set to market and it will become a true collector's Z Scale delight! I accept payment by check, money order, or MC/Visa by phone and also PayPal for an easy transaction. International patrons must assume actual shipping costs. If you are interested, please use the "buy it now" function and I'll send you one of my invoices showing a final tally and payment instructions which you may copy for your records. Thanks once again for all the support you have shown, making it possible to continue bringing forth new Z Scale items of interest to our "miniature" diversion! Track On! Faithfully, Will
I accept PayPal payments! Now Available for International Users
