Here’s a high quality, ZUNI inlay three piece 33" long squash style eagle necklace and matching earrings set for a fraction of it no-hype southwestern retail price of more than $850.00 since the silver prices have skyrocketed in recent months. Please keep in mind that this is a Zuni squash, not a mass-produced, factory made Navajo or foreign made squash set and, with the exception of the eagle beads, it's entirely hand made from genuine semi-precious gemstones rather than one of those cookie cutter squash necklace hand assembled from machine tooled parts some of which unfortunately have entirely fake stones and/or are made of either nickel (coin, German) silver or sterling silver fill over nickel silver. The highly esteemed eagle has great significance to Native Americans because it is the spirit who connects the earth and the heavens. Eagle feathers are used in prayer fans and spiritual ceremonies, and only Native Americans are permitted by law to have eagle feathers in their possession. The squash necklace features 12 magnificent hand inlaid American eagles perched on a dual strand of mirror polished eagle beads. Like most squash style necklaces, the dual strand tapers to a single strand beyond the eagles at the top. The 2" by 2" naja style is surrounded by a small inlaid leaves and more inlaid leaves on the interior of the round sterling silver naja wire 12 teardrop-shaped inlays of black jet, Mediterranean coral, pink shell, green shell (which is actually a pale yellow), and turquoise along the outer surface of wire. The naja is a basic design that the Spanish brought with them during the conquest and occupation and quickly copied by southwestern Native American tribes for use in theirn jewelry designs. The design has its origins in ancient Moorish culture which the Moors brought with them when they occupied Spain for several hundreds of years more than a thousand years ago. Two matching post back style eagle earrings for pierced ears accompany the necklace. These thirteen eagles on the squash necklace, naja, and the two eagle earrings measure approximately 1½” by ¾.” Laid end to end, the necklace measures about 33” in length with the large inlaid eagle naja adding an additional 1” to its overall length. Each eagle in both the squash necklace and earrings has nine hand cut natural stones of olive shell, mother of pearl, pink shell, green shell, red coral, robin’s egg blue Arizona turquoise, and black onyx. Just imagine the amount of time it takes to hand cut each of these stones so that they fit perfectly into the inlay channels!
