Hardcover (without dust jacket). Original publisher's pictorial green cloth over boards, with covers printed in black and yellow.

 

Boards show some rubbing, edgewear and light spotting/soiling. Spine a little faded and creased. Small hole to the gutter of spine at bottom of rear cover. A few pages lightly dogeared. Book is free of markings or marginalia.

In "The Mysterious Rider," Bill Bellound's foster daughter Columbine agrees to marry his son Jack out of love for her foster father. Jack is a coward, drunkard, gambler, and thief, and Columbine really loves the cowboy Wilson Moore.

Things are changed by the arrival of the title character, a gentle and kind middle-aged man who is so fierce a gunfighter he has earned the nickname Hell Bent Wade, and he will play a crucial role in righting the wrongs of the story.

Zane Grey (January 31, 1872 – October 23, 1939) was an American author best known for his popular adventure novels and stories that presented an idealized image of the rugged Old West. As of June 2007, the Internet Movie Database credits Grey with 110 films, one TV episode, and a series, Dick Powell's Zane Grey Theater based loosely on his novels and short stories.

Frank B. Hoffman (1888-1958) Growing up in New Orleans where his father raced horses, Frank Hoffman developed a great love for these animals, which was reflected in his paintings. He worked as an illustrator for the "Chicago American" newspaper, which gave him an opportunity to draw many subjects from opera to prize fights, and eventually he became head of the department. During that time, he took formal art training from J. Wellington Reynolds, a portrait painter.
