Founded in Le Locle Switzerland in 1865, this avant garde manufacturer has produced fine watch movements, not only Zenith timepieces, but for some of the finest names in the industry. Now owned by LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moet & Hennessy), Zenith has a larger than ever presence and popularity amongst collectors in the United States and around the world and is highly respected for their incredible and innovative designs.
The featured watch is an incredible design. Zenith has truly transformed itself, taking center stage in the cutting edge designs of the 21st century, with the introduction of the Defy Extreme Collection. It is rugged, sporty and modern, and has unrivaled depth and dimension. This watch is the original in the Defy Extreme Collection, creating a huge splash in the industry, and for good reason. It is the Defy Extreme Open El Primero Chronograph in Black Titanium and equally impressive as its design, are its functionality, it is Water Resistant to a Depth of 1000 meters, its use of a combination of high tech materials such as Carbon Fiber, Kevlar and Titanium, and its inclusion of the top-of-the-line Zenith El Primero Movement which powers it.
The watch is housed in a substantial 46.5 mm Case made of Black Titanium with a Black Titanium Uni-Directional Rotating Bezel inscribed with Arabic Numerals and the Zenith logo Stars. It has a Silver and Black Dial made up of multiple layers of Black Carbon Fiber at its base and Brushed Aluminum Subdials. The Chronograph has a 9-branched silver propeller-shaped 30-minute Subdial at 3 o'clock with a red-tipped position indicator and a small 3-blade propeller-shaped Seconds Subdial/Hand at 9 o'clock in Red. Center Hour, Minute and Seconds Hands in Silver Metal Cutout with Red. All hands have Red Superluminova for maximum readability at night. Lastly, the dial prominently features a large, fixed (non moving), 9-branched silver propeller shaped cover over the exposed escapement.
It is an Automatic Chronograph with the special Zenith El Primero Movement, Caliber 4021SX, and is assembled with 278 components, beats at 36,000 vph (very few movements beat at such a high frequency), 39 Jewels & an approximately 50 hour Power Reserve. It's Power Reserve Indicator is located between 4 and 7 o'clock and adds to the design detail of the dial. It also has great design details in the Screw-in Crown and Pushers and a Helium Escape Valve located on the edge of the case at 10 o'clock. It comes on a really sharp Black Bracelet made of Rubber. An incredible watch!
Personal Note--This watch is one of the coolest designs of all time, especially with the Black Bracelet with the Black Case and Bezel. It is an incredible color combination. Also, the size is gorgeous, and impressive at 46.5mm. Looking at watches all of the time, and having collected watches for most of my life, I can tell you that this is one model that will remain in my personal collection always!! I LOVE to wear it, and have different models which I wear all the time! It is rugged, yet so incredibly stylish. When I have it on, I get a ton of compliments from both men and women. Women always notice it and comment! If James Bond were to choose a watch, this would be it!
