Description

Up for auction is an Apple iPhone 2G 8GB jailbroken and unlocked with firmware 3.1.2. This iPhone is in great WORKING condition and works with any SIM card, such as AT&T, T-Mobile, etc. This iPhone has some thin scratches on the screen but no dead pixels, while the back housing has a few minor scuffs and scratches (as seen in the pictures). Included in this auction is the iPhone 2G 8GB, wall charger, and USB data cable. This iPhone is being sold as-is, so please ask any and all questions you might have about this auction as all sales are final. There is also some confusion about the difference between unlocked and jailbroken, here is a short explanation:

Unlock

Most cellular carriers offer phones at a discounted price with a 1 or 2 year contract. Over the duration of the contract they recover the discount in monthly fees. To prevent users from switching to a different carrier the phones they sell are locked to only work with their SIM card. iPhones sold in the USA by Apple and AT&T can only be used with current AT&T SIMs, not even with the old original pre-Cingular ones. It would be nice if they would unlock the phone after expiration of the contract, when the phone has been paid off, but most carriers don't offer this service. Fortunately a 3rd party solution is available. An unlocked iPhone accepts any SIM card including most pre-paid ones (except TracFone which requires special firmware in the phone), so it can be used with any GSM carrier.

Jailbreak

On a standard iPhone you can only install and run apps that are downloaded through iTunes or directly from the App Store. To allow the use of a lot of useful apps that have not (yet) been approved by Apple the iPhone has to break out of the Apple "jail". A jailbroken iPhone or iPod Touch can download and install apps from 3rd party sources. Applications such as Cydia and Icy are similar to the App Store, but they can access these 3rd party stores and give you access to hundreds of free games, themes, ringtones, and applications. Jailbreak also make it possible to share apps if you have multiple iPhones without buying a separate copy for each one. It is also useful for evaluation of apps before buying them because software vendors usually don't allow returns and refunds even if the app has serious problems. Another added feature is OpenSSH which allows secure connections from a Mac or PC to the iPhone for uploading/downloading files and executing commands, similar to using Terminal on the Mac or Command Prompt under Windows.
