History: Mahal

       The town of Mahal (also known as Mahallat) is located south west of Arak. Mahal is situated 260 kilometers south-west of Tehran. This town is not only famous for its rugs and carpets but also for its mineral springs. It also has one of the best Travertine stone in the world. There are many mines all around the city. Majorty of these stone exported to Europe specially Italy for design and structure purposes.
    The carpets and rugs from Mahal have an interesting characteristic. You can find both tribal and curvature patterns. This attribute comes from unique position of city of Mahal. The Mahal is between cities of Arak and Delijan and path of tribal people of south of Iran. Weaver in Mahal are using both Turkish and Persian knots, so You should check the back of carpet. The number of Knots varies and depend of the quality of carpet. Mahal rugs are very soft and have lustrous wool wool, thin, tight piles, double wefts. Main colors are usually dark red ,khaki, and the border majorty of the time is blue.
