c 1899 knife blade leather worker skinning skinner

c 1899 cast iron handle knife with a patent date of sept. 12, 1899 in the handle. original and unusual to me for i have never seen one like this before. i thought it might be for skinning hides or working with leather for a cobbler or something. looks like it was used for scraping and maybe cutting, overall length is 7 3/4 inches.
