If you are reading this, you will probably already know far more than me about the World Famous Italian woodcarving firm of ANRI Ltd., started in 1912 by Antonio Riffeser. From the early years they produced a huge, and ever expanding, range of decorative items for the home, with the emphasis on novelty and decoration. Including, as well as a huge range of Bottle Stoppers, both fixed and articulated, Figurines from tiny to 18-inchs, Napkin Rings, Egg-Timers, Corkscrews, Door-Wedges, Hooks, Brushes, Umbrella Handles, Salad Servers, Paper-Clips, Rubbers, Paper-Knives / Page Turners / Letter-Openers, Pencil-Caps, Pen Holders, Spoons, Calendars, Book-Ends, Desk-Sets, Cigarette Boxes, Ashtrays, Nutcrackers large & small, Tooth-Pick & Match Holders, Place-Card Holders, Pipe-Stands, Thermometers, Bar-Sets, Dioramas, Christian Items, Stick-Pins, Bells, Pin-Cushions, Feather-Dusters, Door-Knockers. Clocks, Window-Wedges, String- Boxes, Cigarette Cases, Book-Boards, Blotters, Toppers, Miniature Bands, Novelty Eggs, Candle-Holders, Bookmarks, Table Favors, etc., etc.

Please also view my other items, as I am listing another genuine original very early Anri Ltd catalogue, for sale separately, the other is an English edition, circa 1925, from their London Shop, how rare is that!

This sale is for a genuine and original, but undated, early 1930's, Anri Ltd., multilingual factory catalogue, produced from their Italian factory, descriptions in Italian, German, French, and English, and includes four photographs of their workers producing the carvings. Size approx 11 inches x 8-1/2 inches (28cm x 22cm), originally with 184 pages full of illustrations, including a full-colour page for the stick-pins, but now missing 4 sheets / 8 pages (see below), pages give item reference numbers / sizes available, but no prices. The 'Trade-Mark' design is most similar to the one used from circa 1925, the clothes and hairstyles of the sportsmen and women are typical 1920's, early 1930's, the 'Boxers' and the 'Eagles' (see photo's) are a typical style of decoration from circa 1930, there's a gorilla holding a naked lady reminiscent of several stories from the 1920's culminating in King-Kong in print in 1932 and film in 1933, perhaps most tellingly that it is early 1930's, is that there are dozens & dozens of items using the brainchildren of George Studdy; 'Bonzo' the dog and 'Ooloo', the cat. 'Bonzo' first appearing in magazines in 1922 and 'Ooloo' in 1929, sweeping the World in the later 1920's and the 1930's, and reproduced in a large number of designs by Anri.

The catalogue with a coral coloured woven-effect paper-covered hardcover
, is rubbed at the edges, has small splits at the spine-ends, the lower two-inches of the spine appear to be glued to the bound section inside, is a little marked, and has a small number of shallow surface holes in the middle of the back board (not going through the to the inside), but firmly in one piece, and in reasonable condition (see photo). Inside is incomplete, possibly lacking a title page but definitely lacking pages 3/4 and 21/22 and 61/62 and 103/104, coral-colour paper pocket applied to the front pastedown is empty, endpapers are sound and boards attached, binding staples are rusting with minimal marking to the pages, some pages are coming adrift and a few pages have been glued back in at the spine-edge mostly the early pages, a couple of pages with splits near the lower spine edge, mostly pages are not torn, and nothing affecting the illustrations, no writing or graffiti, not tanned, pale foxing to the first and last couple of pages and variable throughout, a small amount of occasional pale usage soiling mostly to the lower margin and fore-edge, mostly crisp and bright and clean and tidy, but needs the binding tidying up.
