An early nineteenth century edition of Barclay's important reference work.  Illustrated with frontispiece, seventeen further plates and nine maps.  The final map of the world is folding and in colour.

Maps present are of; Africa, South America, France, Germany, Hindoostan, The Kingdoms of Spain and Portugal, Spain and Portugal Provinces, Sweden Denmark and Norway, Chart of the World.

The dictionary contains

1. A full explanation of difficult words and technical terms in all trades, professions, arts and sciences; Algebra, Anatomy etc.

2. A Pronouncing Dictionary, in which the proper sounds of English words are so given, that both natives and Foreigners may acquire a just pronunciation.

3. Tracing the words from their original fountains

4. Explaining the various senses in which they are used, supported by authorities from the best English writers.

5. Each word is followed by an initial letter, to denote the part of speech to which it belongs.

6. An epitome of the History of England, from the time of Egbert to the year 1811, arranged alphabetically under every sovereign's name.

7. A statement of the sects and divisions in the Christian Church; together with a brief history of the prophets and apostles.

8. A description of the cities and counties of England and Wales

9. A list of the most eminent poets and other ingenious men, who have flourished in these kingdoms.

Revised corrected and considerably augmented by selections from Ash Fry et. al.  The whole on so extensive a plan as to unite the different excellencies of all other English Dictionaries.

Antiquities, Boundaries, curiosities etc.

Bought down to the present year 1811, under the editorship of a scientific and literary character, comprehending all the changes in the empires, Kingdoms and States of the World.

Which have taken place within the eventful period of the last twenty years.
