c1890-FINE GERMAN PORTRAIT BY LUDWIG KOHRL-LISTED

" Girl With Floral Bouquet in Extensive Landscape ". Original oil on fine linen canvas: 13 inches by 9 3/4 inches: ( 33 by 25cm ): signed lower right - " Kohrl - Munchen ": Old Munich art dealer's label affixed to the stretcher bar ( see photo ): old oval ink stamp also on the bar: canvas maker's Munich logo on the reverse of the canvas.

A truly beautiful late 19th century oil in mint original condition by Ludwig Kohrl ( 1858 - 1927 ). This oil is an exceptional example of the best of Kohrl's work in portraiture with landscape. The oil has been professionally cleaned and comes in Kohrl's original frame.The frame is an exquisite heavy wood high relief gold and bronze leaf floral design with carved detail finishing.( frame size is 17 by 14 inches/ 43 by 35 cm ).

Ludwig Kohrl was born in Graz, Germany in 1858. He studied at The Grazer Zeichenakadmie. Kohrl excelled at genre and portraiture in oil and was highly popular in his lifetime. He maintained studios in Graz, Munich, and Siebenburgen. He held his first exhibition in Vienna in 1885 and later in Munich in 1889 where he settled and established his permanent studio ( This work relates from his Munchen period which many collectors feel was his best period ). It is possible that this is a portrait of Kohrl's daughter ( Freeman Auction House in Philadelphia sold a related oil on 5 Dec. 1992 called " Woman in Red Parasol " for $1,550, that was believed to be his daughter.).
