c1900 Webb C Ball Watch Co. Oak Railway Regulator Clock

Description

We ship worldwide. Write for custom quote.

In the wake of a terrible train collision in 1881, it was realized that inaccurate timepieces had been the cause. The commissioner of railroads appointed Webb C. Ball to set accuracy standards for railroad watches and clocks. Thus was born the Webb C. Ball Watch Company of Cleveland, Ohio.

Ball's company never actually manufactured a clock or watch.  All of his clocks and watches were produced by the major manufacturers of the day, and he forced incredibly high standards for timepieces bearing his name.  His watches were worn by conductors and his regulators hung in railway stations throughout the country.

This short drop regulator was made for Ball by Seth Thomas and is in very good condition.  The golden oak case measures 24" tall x 16" wide.  The quarter sawn timbers display the grain to it's greatest advantage.  Features a fantastic and rare interior backboard label.  The large 11" dial is a replacement with the Ball logo copied from an original clock.  The original trademarque Seth Thomas #41-A movement is fresh from a $200 cleaning and new bushing and pivot on T3.  Strong running and keeps excellent time.  Retains the Geneva stop.  Solid brass bezel and pendulum.  Key included.

These are becoming very rare clocks, and will make a superb gift for that special railroad collector.
