| Very Rare, original ca1900, Chromolithograph Advertising Sign for Resinol Complexion and Shaving Soap featuring a Family at their morning toilet!!! This attractive Chromolithograph Sign measures approx. 23" x 30" and is framed in a period walnut frame (overall size with frame is approx. 28” x 34”). The Sign features an early morning bedroom scene with a Father emerging from the bathroom and a young Mother in her nightgown tossing her naked baby into the air. Resinol Soap Products are seen prominently in the image. We guess that the message is “All is well” because of Resinol Soap Products.
Text at the top of the Sign reads: “For the Skin and Complexion / RESINOL SOAP / Used by the Whole Family”. Below the Bedroom scene are inset images of Resinol Shaving Sticks, Resinol Soap and Resinol Ointment. There is text at the bottom of the Sign that reads “Resinol Chemical Co. / Baltimore, MD, U.S.A.”. The Sign is undated and is not signed by the lithographer.
It should be noted that this wonderful Skin and Shaving Soap Advertising Sign has had a matt added at some time in the past. There is staining and surface damage that can be seen at the matt opening along the bottom edge and the damage surely continues to the edge of the Sign. There is also a stain at the upper left hand corner of the matt opening and that also surely continues under the matt. The Sign has lost its cover glass at some time in the past and we could examine the matt without taking the Sign out of the frame. It appears that the matt has been affixed to the surface of the Sign in some manner. The Sign displays nicely “as framed”. Do be advised, that the matt was definitely added to the frame in order to cover flaws that exist on the edges and corners of the Sign.
This rare Resinol Soap Advertising Sign is printed on heavy card stock. We have not seen it before and could find no information about it on line or in print advertising references. We believe it to be VERY rare.
This very rare and attractive, Chromolithographed, Resinol Soap Products Advertising Sign displays in good to very good condition. The colors are somewhat muted (as manufactured) and there is with staining and surface damage along the lower edge of the matt opening that is visible (see the scans below). There are a few thin, and generally short surface scratches in the center area of the Sign, likely caused when the cover glass was broken (again see the scans below). There is also an area of repair at the upper left hand corner of the matt opening (see the scans below). Most of the condition problems are at the matt edges and these issues obviously extend under the matt and likely are significantly worse in those areas near the Sign’s edges. With all of its flaws, this Sign is still very attractive and makes for a very nice display “as matted and framed”.
A very rare and attractive, ca1900, Chromolithograph Resinol Skin and Shaving Soap Advertising Sign and an excellent addition to any collection!!

Important Notes about Shipping Charges and the eBay "Detailed Seller Rating" Star System:
The amount quoted for Shipping & Handling is calculated by eBay and is equal to the EXACT amount charged by the Post Office plus a $1.00 "packing fee" - the $1.00 fee is our only compensation for the virgin packing materials we use on all of our professionally packaged boxes as well as our cost for the salaried help that does most of our packing - as I am sure you can see, we make NO profit on the Shipping charges and, in fact, our costs are usually greater than the $1.00 fee.
We have NEVER requested Feedback from our customers as we were taught that "fishing for compliments" was impolite but the new eBay Detailed Rating System has put us in a rather tight spot. Most buyers are unaware that eBay bases a monthly fee discount on a Seller's "Star" rating. A monthly average of "4.6 Stars" (in any one of the four "Star" categories) costs us approximately $400 in additional eBay Fees - that's $400 above what we would pay if we had a "4.8 Star" average in all 4 "Star" categories!! As a consequence we hope you do not find us rude to ask that if you are happy with our items, our service, and our packing & shipping please be sure to use the "Star" rating system and remember that a "5 Star" rating is the only way we can qualify for eBay's fee reduction program. ,
