It is my pleasure to offer you this vintage Flower Frog produced by Amphora Holland.
Amphora started its production in Oegstgeest when Haga in Purmerend closed its doors in 1907. The founder Sillevoldt not only succeeded to attract Haga's most eminent designers but also some of the best trained decorators and other ambitious craftsmen from De Kroon in Noordwijk, Rembrandt in Nijmegen and from P.Z.H. in Gouda.
During the first years decorative and household ceramics designed by Chris van der Hoef were produced and later the factory succesfully completed the eggshell porcelain left behind after Rozenburg's closure. Therefor they hired the reknown Sam Schelling.
From 1917 Amphora Holland developed its own handpainted matte plateel after the examples set by P.Z.H. but with greater ressemblence to the items of The Arnhem Faïence Factory and Colenbrander´s RAM.
Amphora stopped production of this type of earthenware in 1928.
A good example of the vibrant floral decorations with large leaves is this flowerfrog with the Pompea decoration.
This exceptional item is fully marked at the bottom.
AGE: 1920-1925
DIMENSIONS: Height is 5 inches, widest diameter is 6.5 inches.
CONDITION: EXCELLENT. This flower frog is in MUSEUM condition. The crazing in the bottom area are superficial glazing hairlines which are normal and come from age. They are no cracks. No chips, flakes, repairs or any other flaws. A real treasure for any TOP QUALITY GOUDA Collection.
The white spots on some pictures are the reflection of my photo lights.
