According to the June 1934 issue of The Numismatist (p. 416), collectors could still purchase Uncirculated 1930-S Quarter Dollars for "the face value of the coins and an amount sufficient to cover the mail charrges by first-class mail."
The standing liberty quarter joins the walking liberty half and the Saint Gaudens double eagle as a member of the A team of American coinage. Sculptural beauty was combined with the continuing emphasis on liberty as America's primary value. Sadly, the Lincoln penny introduced the replacement of liberty with big brother. The one deficit with this quarter is the difficulty of getting a clean strike with all the details. Clean strikes, e.g. "full head" command a high premium. However, one can obtain AU clean strikes with better details than BU coins and at a fraction of the cost. So if your goal is a collection of beauties, but your budget is limited, think of going this route.

The picture shows the coin in a card with the notation "Mint". This is not a "mint" quality coin, it has been cleaned, and may (or may not) be worth the $32.00 I paid for it, though an actual "mint" graded coin would sell for well over $100.00.
