By now if you are
a collector you have probably seen the many rare Chris Craft wooden boats that
have been sold on eBay from the mayor’s collection in Illinois.The estate is down are to the last few
boats.The family thought that
they were going to keep this rare 1955 Cobra 18’ speedboat (only 55 built) but
have decided to sell it.It is an all-original
boat with all original fittings and the original KBC 131 hp engine!! It even
has a IVA searchlight, which is original to the boat along with the original dash
gauges.These boats were known to
do 41 mph from the factory and it is very rare that you find a NON-MOLESTED
Cobra!

the lost Cobra’s (the owner, who had this boat 30-40 years, as far as we know
never registered this Cobra with any Chris Craft or Cobra clubs.
For those of you
who do not know the mayor had collected about 15 Chris Craft wooden boats and many
Lincolns, Mercedes and several Edsels.He always purchased the best and attempted to keep
things in excellent condition.This boat has not been in the water for five years but was running well
and taking to the water just fine when it was put away.
Most books written
about Chris Crafts will feature the Cobra’s as per the two photos from the
books:The Legend of Chris Craft
by Jeffrey L. Rodengen and Chris Craft the Essential Guide by Jerry Conrad, The
Mariners’ Museum.
You may wait
another lifetime but never see an unmolested one as good as this on eBay. This
boat also comes with a very nice trailer fitted to the boat.
