Hey all,
Up for auction is a great bus that I've enjoyed restoring for the past 2 years. It began life as a military ambulance and was later sold to the school districts in Montana where I discovered it. It was a disaster when I first found it, the seller said it hadn't moved for 10+ years and had been used as storage. The body was made of aluminum to keep weight down but it also allowed prevented corrosion, there was such an abundance of undercoating that rust just never had a chance. I could tell immediately that it was a solid project and had so much fun bringing it back from the grave, I've had limited use of it since its completion but it's been all over So California and gets great attention.
I've removed the interior and flooring, wire wheeled the floor boards, primed them, replaced the flooring with new wood and carpet, installed RV furniture, and gave it a meager paint job. There is a dinette and sofa that pull into a bed so it will sleep two couples, I've always loved road trips and this is a great way to cruise. In all I've put $18K+ into it so I'll list all of the items that I've replaced and repaired below, this thing is fairly close to the original condition when it left the factory. Just recently the motor (223cid inline-6 ) lost compression so now the decision I have to make is to either replace the motor or put it up for sale, regrettfully I'm choosing the latter due to limited storage space at my house and finances. It was never designed for cross country travel so I feel the combination was a bit underpowered, I would put a V8 in there to improve performance but it was cruising at 60mph with the current motor. If you're local and want to see it then we'll work something out or if you have any questions or need to see more pics then I'd be more than happy to open up the kimono....just let me know!
