Black 1996 Mercedes Benz SL320 with Palomino interior. This car is in stunning condition with glossy paint and a gorgeous interior. It has been maintained at Mercedes-Benz of Southampton in the Hamptons and Silver Star in NYC. The soft top was replaced a couple of years ago and most of the hydraulics in the top have also been replaced. The car comes complete with its hard top (I have never used it) and removable windscreen (shown in trunk in pictures). This car is my summer car and mainly gets driven back and forth on the 100 mile trip between NYC and the Hamptons from June - September. It has low mileage (less than 10,000 miles per year) because its only driven in the warm weather months. We'll be travelling next summer and not using the car so, sadly, now is the time to sell it. While the car is an SL320R, it is badged as an SL500. I preferred the SL320 to the SL500 because the 6 cylinder engine gets better gas mileage and is less expensive to maintain than the 8 cylinder model. There is plenty of power under the hood - I've never once felt I needed more. It says SL500 on the trunk so your neighbors will never know.
This car is truly stunning. Even in the Hamptons, where Ferraris are very common, I still get compliments on the car every time I drive it. The AMG wheels give it a high-performance look and the side windows are slightly tinted, bringing a strong, cohesive look to the car.
The car has been upgraded with a Pioneer AVIC-N3 multimedia / GPS system. When the car is started, the screen extends from the dashboard and flips up electronically. The screen shows GPS information, with directions spoken through the car's speakers. The unit features detailed information on screen and even advanced features such as lane assist, showing the driver which lane to be in for an upcoming exit. There is an integrated iPod connection that allows you to select tracks and control the iPod's features from the touch screen. The interface looks similar to the iPod screen and enables search by playlists, artists, albums, songs and genres. It is, of course, XM/Sirus satellite radio enabled. DVD movies can be played, even when the vehicle is in motion (though I don't recommend it!). The system has the XM TrafficNav option, enabling (for a small monthly fee) real-time traffic monitoring on select roads and the ability to route around traffic jams. The AVIC system is fully integrated with the car and was purchased and professionally installed at a cost of nearly $5,000.
Other upgrades on the vehicle include the headlights. The original headlights on this model were very weak so they have been replaced with the high-discharge model more commonly found on the European version of the car.
Some things you should know:
The blower fan for the heating and air conditioning system needs to be replaced for the heating and air conditioning system to properly circulate air throughout the car. I only drive this car in warm weather with the top down and didn't want to give it up for a few days over the summer for Mercedes of Southampton to fix this. But if you plan on driving with the top up you should. The original antenna on the car extends when the car is turned on and goes up several feet. I didn't like the look of an enormous antenna ruining the line of the car so I had it removed. Therefore the AM and FM reception on the radio is very weak. This doesn't bother me because I always listen to satellite radio (Sirius / XM) or my iPod via the integrated iPod connector. If you want to listen to AM and FM radio, you'll need to purchase and install a replacement antenna.
While the car is in excellent cosmetic condition, its not brand new. Its always been babied, always garaged, never driven in snow. But its still a 13 year old car.
I am not a mechanic - I am doing my best to accurately describe the car to the best of my abilities. The car is being sold AS IS and this sale is FINAL SALE. If you want to see it before you buy it, that can be arranged. Don't bid unless you intend to buy. Once you have won the auction, you have agreed to buy the car and I will take legal action to ensure the contract is fulfilled if necessary.
My Mercedes is being sold with NO RESERVE for a quick sale. I am not looking to make a killing here. I simply want to sell the car to someone who will appreciate it as much as I have and who will take good care of it.
If you are the winning bidder, you have entered into a contract to purchase the vehicle. There will be no negotiation of price after the close of the auction. You agree to take possession of the vehicle within 5 business days of close of auction or arrange for a shipper, at your cost, to pick up the vehicle in New York City within 5 business days of close of auction. If you are not able to pick up the vehicle within 5 business days, a fee of $30/day will be charged to store the vehicle.
Funds for the purchase of the vehicle must be received IN FULL in cash or a cashier's check within three business days of the close of the auction.
Personal checks and paypal are not accepted. Thanks and happy bidding!
