Ready for an adventure!
The Bike:
I sold my R1150R in September in anticipation of taking a job overseas, which did not come through, so I decided motorcycle number 39 was in order. I have had seven prior BMW’s and had wanted to try a GS, so I bought this motorcycle and decided to go fulfill a twenty year desire to ride the Blue Ridge Parkway http://www.blueridgeparkway.org during the fall foliage season and ride “The Tail of the Dragon” at Deals Gap http://www.tailofthedragon.com .
I just returned from that trip and I am so enamored with the performance and handling of the GS that I want a new one. This is as close to the most perfect motorcycle I have ever ridden; much better than my R1150R, it took on the Dragon’s Tail with the spirit of a sport bike, it handled the interstate as smoothly and as quickly as my traveling companions Harley Ultra Classic; this 1150GS is light, nimble, has a great power band, smooth as a BMW should be, and luggage space a-plenty!
I put on a new Z-Technik windshield which creates a quiet, non-buffeted rider zone that is comfortable, even at 85 mph; the stock smaller windshield is included and would make a great warm weather screen. The bike starts right up, runs great, and provided a wonderful ride through the Appalachian Mountains.
It has a GPS mounting bracket (taken off but included) with the wiring in place; it also has another power source plug in—for what I am unsure. The paint is very good condition, it has a great patina, and a great shine. The tank has one small dent--smaller than your thumb print on the left side; saddlebags and trunk are in complete working order, some minor shoe/boot scuffs from mounting; bags come off in a minute for a lighter, leaner look. The right side cylinder has the usual minor airhead scrape. The seat had a small tear at one time that has been repaired; it is unnoticeable as it hides under the seat strap. I am very picky about imperfections, even on used bikes, these are acceptable imperfections. I have bought and sold over ten motorcycles on E-Bay and I like to mention the smallest of blemishes. The additional pictures on the linked website show how nice the bike really is.
The bike has been serviced at all regular intervals, I just changed all fluids and ran fuel injector and value cleaner in ever tank on the Blue Ridge trip—it is running smooth. The ABS lights in the instrument cluster flashed several times, hitting the reset button seemed to stop it—the brakes performed flawlessly and were put to the test on the Dragon’s Tail; the rear brake pads were changed approximately 1000 miles ago. The bike has the usual: ABS brakes, spoke wheels, power outlet, hand guards, heated grips, the full set of original tools under the removable rear seat. All gauges are working; the mirrors have wide view insets.
The bike is ready for the next adventure that you can throw at it. The Kelly Blue Book value on this motorcycle is approximately $7,495.00 (price added for accessories and deducted for miles) http://www.kbb.com/motorcycle/retail/2002/bmw/r1150gsa-abs/65288 . My reserve is reasonable and I will consider a buy it now offer. I reserve the right to end the auction early. You see the prices that BMW 1150GS’s bring, and you can see that some sit in garages, never ridden, and many get used, like they are meant to be; here is your chance to experience the fun and excitement of a maintained GS at a very reasonable price.
One note: many people think the GS is too tall and too heavy, I am 5’6” and never once came close to dropping the bike, there is an art to dismounting and mounting; park using the side stand, put it on the center stand—very easily done, even with a bad back and a torn rotator cuff like I have—and simply drive off the center stand. So don’t let the height intimidate you if you are not 6 feet tall.
