up for auction is whats left of a 72 Challenger stock car.I bought it for the bolt on parts for my 70.it is basically the remainder of sheet metal, that doesn't unbolt, and rear springs.I bought it from a drag racer who took it a few laps with a junker truck motor.the cage was only certified once back in 95,so I would say it may have one real season on it.this has been off the road a long time,so it is realitively rust free.the window channels are really nice.the floor pan is dry,but is high in a spot or two,and cut for trans linkage.the trunk floor is dry,but cut for a fuel cell.the roof is really pretty straight(never been rolled),but there's a few holes from a window net, welding with a mig too hot mishap.very repairable.inner wheel houses are nice.the frame rails are not bent badly, but all have a little kink here and there.when I drove it around my neighborhood it went straight, very straight.they are dry dry,so is the crossmember, spring area.the tail has a dent(repairable),with no rust.trunk hinges are still there.the deck lid fit very nice before removal.
Lets talk a little roundy round.there are spots where hood, and deck pins will still need removed.there is also tubing ends still welded on from the cage.all should be able to remove with little remains.the cowl has several holes from wires, lines.and roll bars.the package tray has been cut at the speakers for the roll bar.theres a whole lotta holes from rivets, and some poo welded on the front rails, and elsewhere.I think all of this can be carefully removed, repaired, and patched with patience, and good welding skills.
Stock cars hit other cars,it's a fact of life.it will need both aprons replaced, they're just really bent up.the left kick panel took a tire and will need work to straighten, but the hinge pillar seems fine.both rockers are dented, but no worse than winter damage here in Denver.the drivers lock pillar needs pulled, its pushed in,but saveable.the quarters need replaced, but after a pull, probably only needs skins.the outer wheel houses, and quarter drops are junk.there is a little rust where the quarters meet the rocker from that soft moist racetrack dirt.the rear shock mounts are wallowed out a bit.
I think this is a good car to clone,or save a rusty hemi car.I also think it can be saved, due to an abundance of aftermarket, and swap meet parts.I have a pair of straight door shells, with a little rust,a flat hood, tail light, and core bumper I will offer seperately to the winning bidder.I am so confident it's saveable I will not be parting it out any further...if it doesn't sell,I might fix the damage, and sell it when they tell us the economy's better.I don't have a title,or a dash tag.
