This AMX was taken in on trade for a motor home. All of the information below was compiled by the previous owner who had been looking at AMX’s since 2001. He has provided us with all this information and 2 binders full of the manuals and instructions from the car along with all of the original parts. If you have any questions about this car we can answer them to the best of our knowledge.

This may be one of the most complete and heavily optioned AMX’s you will find.  I have done my best to provide you the most accurate information to help you, if you need to know something ask.

I am not a dealer or collector this is my first classic outside of High School and I educated myself to make sure it was cared for properly and maintained by the book. So, sit down make yourself comfortable, get a beer because I am going to blow your mind as it did mine.

History (as I know it)

This AMX was purchased by the original owner in Zone 30 California, who kept it in CA until his death in the late 90’s.  His wife stored it until 2007 when she Auctioned it via Broker in 2007 in Anaheim CA. It was moved to Florida for a couple of months by a Gaithersburg school teacher who moved there to retire close to his family.  His dad came down ill almost to the day when the car was delivered to him.  I purchase 7 weeks later and it been garaged in Springfield, VA in a climate controlled facility.  To the best of my knowledge this car has never seen the rain.

Description

This is a 1969 model year AMX 390 Auto (M12), built October 23 1968. Complete, no rust, has not been cut or molested in any way.  59,000+ original miles.  It has never been taken apart for any reason. Heavily optioned Group 19 and Group 15 upgrades. The original owner optioned this AMX with some pretty unique Group 19 and Group 15 Parts at the factory and the dealership. One very important point, I have all of the original parts with this car as the original purchaser had the wherewithal to keep them –they are in new condition.

It has its factory CAR BUILDING ORDER - the build sheet - showing that it left the factory as you received it!

Factory Matador Red still has 60% of its original single-stage paint, the original vinyl stripes were removed and were painted on.  Some Options include:

* Factory A/C
* Power disc Brakes, Correct Bendix 4 piston Calipers.
* Power Steering
* Tilt wheel
* Tachometer
* 140 MPH Speedometer
* Magnum 500 Wheels – accurate as the car was built in 68, original wheels are slotted
* Visibility group (electric wipers, warning buzzer, etc)
* Space Saver Spare Tire

* Leather – only 852 left the factory with leather

* AM radio – original

* Rear bumper guards

* Handling Package

* Tinted Glass

* Dual exhaust

The plating and stainless are excellent. The interior is like new. The dashboard is perfect (I spent over 900 dollars having them redone including calibration, and rich, lustrous gauges and wood graining. The Chrome Magnum 500's are 15", a subtle touch; However, I have the original date-coded 14” rims with beauty rings and caps in very good condition. Body is perfect - It is totally Rust Free!

I have included for you the maintenance I have recorded with dates.  Note: I have many original boxes from the repairs and upgrades and a lot of original documentation.

This AMX has been maintained like no other classic I have ever seen or owned, as you will see. It has been garaged its entire life and until recently climate controlled.

Full Disclosure

-Gas Tank; Seam started to leak, so I had it removed, bead-blasted and sealed inside and outside with a baked on Polymer.  It has been documented with RENU and now wears the Plate #233978, Lifetime guarantee.

-Wittek hose clamps; while original Wittek Corporation clamps, not the ones that came with the car – for obvious reasons.

-Three keys; while unusual not completely without precedence.  Never found out why, 1-door, 1-trunk, 1-ignition

-Ignition; I got tired of playing with the points. I am not a mechanic, so I had an electronic ignition installed.  I have the original set up and I installed a date coded set of ignition wires, 3rd quarter 68.

-Starter; I installed a smaller starter as I felt the original was sitting too close to the headers and I was concerned with overheating. Of course I have the original starter in very good condition. Yes, it works fine.

-AM Speaker; I had the speaker updated with a superior replacement part which is much lighter and sounds a lot better.  The original AM speaker and Radio are still with the car. The speaker is toast and the paper has degraded.

-Headliner was replaced by the broker for the sale, it was professionally done and looks great, however, it is not to factory specs.  The trunk was lined as well, but the original trunk liner will come with the car –in new condition.

-Mufflers; In 1971 the owner had purchased a set of Hush Thrush mufflers never installed on the dual exhaust, I installed them and kept the boxes. They look perfect and sound great, although ideal for 1971, historically, they are not OEM.  Pipes were also upgraded to 2 ½”.

-Suspension; Gymkhana suspension installed to improve handling, original sway bar will come with car.

Group19 Options –Both factory and dealer installed
