Information below is taken from the 5th Foreign Hollander interchange manual
This book is used to cross reference parts. Called the junk yard bible because every junk yard would have one.
The same part is used in many different cars / trucks and this book tells you what other vehicles have the part you need.
Example is if I have a 1975 Honda Civic. The radiator fan motor dies and I need a new one. I don?t want to pay the dealer for a new one. (If they can even get one!) By checking the Hollander I find that several cars used this same fan motor. The Hollander code for this motor is 139. When I go to the next section of book I will see that I can get a fan motor from any of the following vehicles that will drop in place and bolt right up
Honda early 75 CVCC (type 1 & 2)
Honda 79 CVCC
Honda 73-79 Civic (type 1 & 2)
Honda 76-79 Accord (type 2)
Honda 79-80 prelude
So as you can see the same fan motor was used in MANY different cars and years. So if I can find any of these in the Junk yard or in the paper, I can get car back on road fast!!
Book looks like it covers cars from 1960 - 79
Some of the cars are covered thru 1980
But as you can see with the Volkswagen section, that goes all the way back to 1947
If a part used in a 1978 car was also used in a 1952 car , it will still be listed as an exchange.
