| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This auction is for an very rare, genuine 1963 Mini Cooper S Rally Car which completed the Monte Carlo Historique Rally in 2002, and is now in perfect, totally restored condition. This car has a mass of hard or impossible to find parts and equipment, including Aluminium bonnet, doors and boot lid. A general description of the car is listed below: Body & Exterior The body is in excellent condition and finished in BMC Surf Blue. It features very rare aluminium panels and has added box sectioning for strength. It also has reinforced jacking points, an Alloy Sump Guard and perspex side and rear windows. A full Safety Devices 45mm Roll Cage is fitted internally and also has twin allow fuel tanks and fillers. Interior The interior of this car is powder blue with gold brocade. The seats are period Rally Seats by Restall, and I'm told are now impossible to find. They are very period and very comfortable actually. There is Full Rally Instrumentation, including a pair of Stopwatches, Halda Tripmaster and Halda Speedpilot, like everything in the car they are fully functioning and illuminated when the lights are turned on. There are also some rare instruments on the control panel, including a Works 120mph speedometer and a 10,000rpm rev counter. There is a Works-type windscreen heater (functioning) map reading light and many of the driver controls for wipers, windscreen washers ect are replicated on the Navigators side. there is an internal battery cut off switch located behind the gear shift lever and fully functioning map reading light. An Oil Pressure/Water Temperature gauge is fitted and working, as is a Low Oil Pressure Waring Light. Switch extenders are fitted on almost everything and all instruments/gauges function as intended. Engine & Gearbox The Engine fitted to this Mini is a 1275cc unit to 1295cc and full rally spec. Detailed below: 1275cc Block bored +20 Full race 12G940 head with 37mm inlet and 29mm exhaust valves Leyland 649 camshaft 1275 “S” steel duplex gears Competition diaphragm clutch (grey) with sintered paddle plate Ultra light steel flywheel and lightened steel backplate Sureflow Precision oil pump Oil cooler Aldon ignition unit and distributor High capacity water pump High flow radiator / blade fan Twin H4 1 ½” SU carburettors with TR2 air filters Twin solid state competition fuel pumps, both switched 2” LCB exhaust manifold and special "Works" exhaust system The engine starts and runs perfectly. It shows great oil pressure and pulls very strongly across the rev range. The Gearbox is as below: Straight cut close ratio 4 syncro gearbox with magnetic oil pick up filter 1:1 straight cut drop gears Salisbury Mk2 limited slip differential with 3.9:1 straight cut CWP Electrics 65 Amp alternator Car wired to take 600 watts of lighting 4 no. Lucas 7” spot lights Lucas reversing light – 135 watt Electric heated window washer Battery isolator switch Heated top window bar Running Gear Adjustable ‘Koni’ dampers Hi / Lo ride adjusters Negative camber link arms Soft blue spring conversion kit Cooper S front brake discs Stainless steel brake hoses Mintex brake pads / shoes Cooper S steel wheels (3.5” x 10”) Summary To sum up this car, this is a full Rally Spec car, with current FIVA papers that completed the Monte Carlo Historique Rally in 2002 and would be the perfect entry for anyone to do this, or any other Rally again. It is absolutely rust free inside and out and presents and drives very well indeed. It needs nothing mechanically or cosmetically and would be perfect for Historic rallying or to be unique at your next British Car Show. Many of the parts are now either very difficult or impossible to find, and to replicate this car would be an extremely costly undertaking. The car is available for inspection to serious buyers in Northern Virginia, and is for sale locally and sun=bject to prior sale. I will try and answer any sensible questions anyone has, and can help arrange transport globally at the buyers expense. I require a $2000 deposit within 48 hours of the auction closing with the balance due within 5 business days. Please ask all questions before bidding. Thanks and good luck
