The MA-2 system of bomb tone scoring was tested in the B-47 but first successfully deployed in the B-52.  During WWII bombs were dropped visually - a process that didn't work very well with smoke, fog, haze, or darkness.

The Bomb Tone Scoring system used a type of radar or radio system to determine bomb release timing.  The B-52 was the first US Bomber to use this system.

Our B-52 manuals show this switch panel located in the BNS portion of the lower deck on the left hand side of the panel.

This is a side view of the MA-2 Bomb Tone Scoring Switch.

 

 

This MA-2 Control Switch from the Bomb Scoring System of the B-52's BNS or Bombing Navigation Station was used as part of the first successful system deployed on the B-52 after the Norden bomb site from WWII.
