1963 Buick Wildcat
| |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
If you clicked on this auction, you already know that this factory 4 speed Wildcat is a very, very rare car. Of the 12,185 two door hardtops produced for the 1963 model year, this is one of the handful (Buick historians say between six and eight) of Wildcats that left Flint, Michigan with the factory 4 speed (non-published) option.
We are the second owners of this 1963 Buick Wildcat. It has been in storage since the 1980s in our family garage. The original owners were neighbors of one of our investment properties and they had ordered it from the factory in late 1962 as a 1963 model year Wildcat. They opted for the factory 4 speed and the car is fully loaded with the exception of A/C. This car sat on the rotating display in the front window of Braley and Graham Buick when the dealer took delivery in early 1963.
In the early 1980s, we had the engine rebuilt by Pilosi Engines in Portland, Oregon. Being high school seniors at the time, we painted the block, heads and valve covers Ford Red (instead of Buick Blue-Green) when we set the engine and transmission back into the car. We thought it looked better back then :-) Power steering pump and mount are still the factory color.
The chassis has 105969 miles on it and the engine has less than 5,000. It has literally only been driven twice in the last 18 years for less than 10 miles. I had it out for a marketing photo shoot in 1991 and I drove it around the block several years ago just to make sure it was still running. Last licensed in 1985, last shown in a car show in 1990 or 1991.
In addition to the rally wheels and radials that are on it right now, we still have the original wheels/tires and hubcaps in storage in the same heated basement that the car is stored in.
I listed this on eBay at the beginning of the summer, but ended up being out of town for most of the auction so I didn't really have time to answer most of the questions that came in.
It does have a reasonable reserve price on it but we would like to get it out of the garage.
Update 11-03-2009: We fired it up on Sunday but didn't pull it out of the garage as the brakes felt really soft. I do have video of Sunday in the garage with the car running perfectly and can e-mail that file to you upon request. Seems it was just out of fuel when we tried to fire it up this summer. Feel free to e-mail me and I can give you my phone number if you have any questions. I did pick up some brake fluid so I may top it off, bleed the system and pull it out of the garage for more video. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
