Your bidding on a Caracal C race car that has been prepped and run in SCCA FST. The car does not have a functional engine installed. It uses a VW 1600 Dual Port engine. FST (Formula First) is a fairly new class in SCCA is currently exploding in popularity. For those unfamiliar it is a modernization of Formula Vee and allows the use of later model equipment, ie, 1600 engine, disc brakes, rack and pinion steering, bigger tires, etc. The rules are such that they keep the costs down and the competition close. To make the class more popular it was set up so one could take a Formula Vee and modify it to FST specs. There are now factory built FST specific cars also. These cars are about $25,000 and thanks to the rules an older modified Formula Vee will run with them if driven well. Exactly what the founding fathers of the class had hoped. This car started life in 1982 as a Caracal C and was raced in Formula Vee. About 5 yrs ago it was one of the first cars to be modified to FST specs. A ball joint front end was added with shortened shock towers and Carrera shocks along with rack and pinion steering. The entire rear of the car was cut off and replaced with stronger frame rails and a zero roll, mono-shock suspension. Disc brakes were added all around. The FST mandatory gear box was installed along with a 1600 engine. The previous owner ran the class for two years but decided to slap in a Mazda rotary and run Formula Special (FS). He did that for a year and then moved on to a Formula Mazda car. I bought the car less the Mazda engine and began returning it to FST. Basically I only needed to cut off the Mazda engine mounts and install a 1600 VW but I did not fit in the car so I modified the cage to fit me a little better. The car has now sat in my garage for several months and I have pretty much lost interest in it. My work schedule is not going to allow me to campaign the car once I do have it going so I see no need to continue. You will need a 1600 engine and an exhaust to complete the car, and some modification to the rear bonnet. (you can just cut it as required to accommodate the air ducts and leave it or add a little fiberglass work to make it nice. The car has on board fire system, Fuel cell, Transponder, and all SCCA logbooks back to 1982. The car is located in SW Michigan and needs to be picked up here. It will take at least a pickup truck and trailer to carry the car and all the extras, including a total of 14 mounted wheels and tires. I Have a trailer that I may consider selling. Please contact me for additional info. There is simply to much to list in this text. Two of the pictures are as the car ran in FST. The others are as it sits now. I will email additional and specific pics on request. Contact thru ebay for direct contact information. I've received questions about the size and engine info. 1) I am 6' and weight 230-235. It is snug but that is how it should be and after sitting in it a few minutes one get's use to it. 2) FST engine specs can be found in the SCCA GCR. Generally it is a stock VW 1600 Dual Port. You must use a counter weighted crank, a spec carb and a restrictor plate. Basically any other mod is STRICTLY Prohibited!! The restrictor plate levels the field. The car comes with a so so case (think I would buy a new one), a set of heads (rebuildable), intake manifolds, a brand new set of 1600 P/C and a whole bunch of other VW stuff that is not for the car but could be sold for some return. Like a 1200 case with new bottom end and a FV gear box (1.21 gear), etc
This car is a bargain at this price. The spare parts are worth over $1000 alone.
