This auction is for a used 3406B Cat six cylinder diesel engine. I removed it from a semi truck that was sold for salvage. There is a tag on the top of the engine that gives the following infomation: Year of Mfg: 1988 (same as truck was) I do not know what all that means, but I did look up on the internet and I found a conversion chart that shows that 317 KW equals 425 horsepower, so that was a big engine in its day. The odometer of the truck read 429,000 miles. I have no way of knowing if that is accurate or not. I can not get the engine to run. I was told when I bought it that two years ago it ran great and was parked. I have no way of knowing if that is true or not, but it was last licensed over the road in 2007 so it makes sense. I charged up the batteries and had it cranking good but it would not start, not even with ether. The exhaust pipes did not have much of a turn at the top and the whole exhaust system was full of water. There was water in the oil, but the antifreeze and the cooling system was full and clean, so I think the water got in the engine from the exhaust being open. I then caged the brakes and tried to pull start it and it would every now and then act like some of the cylinders were trying to fire, but it never would run. I am selling it for parts as I can not get it to run. You are buying it that way! I know that a lot of parts on it should be good, but you will need to repair it if you want to use the whole engine. When I pulled it around, the air pressure built up in the truck so I think the compressor is okay. It also built up good oil pressure and the alternator was charging. The air conditioning compressor is locked up and the belt was removed from it. The engine looks complete and should be good for parts. It looks to my untrained eye that the head on the engine has been replaced not too long ago. It is a different color than the rest of the engine. The engine has a mechanical fuel pump that is turned on and off with the key switch in the cab. It is sure nice to see one as simple and uncomplicated as this engine is. When I removed the engine, I just cut the frame and left the springs in place so they would hold up the engine and protect the oil pan. If you want it shipped, I can ship it the way it is on a pallet, or I can remove the frame and build a metal stand to hold the engine and then crate it. If you want it shipped out the way it is on a pallet, I can build a pallet and strap it to it for an additional $75.00. If you want a special stand build to hold the engine, and have me remove the engine from the frame and then crate it, I can do that for an additional $250.00. I apologize for the expense, but I have found that if you want it done right, it will take me a long time to do it and by the time I pay my help, I am not making any money anyway! I can not provide you with a firm shipping quote until I know how you want it shipped and what it weighs, but if you email me, I can give you a rough quote. I do not know for sure what this engine weighs for shipping. I have a neighbor that said they weigh around 5500 pounds, but with the frame and stuff still attached, I do not know. I have a crane scale that I usually weigh heavy stuff with, but until I find it, I can not check the weight. If I find out what it weighs, I will post it on the listing. Everything in my shop is in alphabetical order, but I lost track of where the "A's" start to know where the "C's" are for crane scale. Oh wait, it might be under "S" for scale or "R" for rigging! Check out my other auctions, I am also selling the 18 speed roadranger transmission that was mounted to this engine and the wet kit and headache rack from the truck.. No reserve! High bidder gets it! FREIGHT SHIPPING When the auction ends and you let me know you want it shipped, I will send you an invoice that has the purchase price and the shipping fee on it. You are welcome to arrange the shipping yourself if you prefer. But the palletizing fee still applies and I still prefer to drop it off at a local shipper instead of having a freight company come pick it up. I live in a rural area and shippers will never tell me a time they are coming to pick something up. I have a good relationship with all the local drivers, as they are in here all the time, but I can't wait around all day for them to show up, so I prefer to drop it off at the depot rather than twiddle my thumbs waiting for them to appear out of the mists! If you arrange the shipping, you need to specify that they call before they come pick something up to verify that someone is here to load them.
