                                1968 CAMARO SS
                                        BALDWIN MOTION 427 TRIBUTE

This car is a tribute to the "super car" guru, Joel Rosen.  He made these cars to leave his
speed shop and go straight to the drag strip, put your slicks on and run 11.50 or less -
Guaranteed!  (most cars in low 11's or less!)   This car is not the real thing, but was built
to be a pretty close replica.  The L88 had a 512# block and topped 500HP.  This big block
car has been detuned to drive on the street and in town on pump gas.  There were only
5 believed produced in 1968, 2 Phase III L88 and 2 with less HP.  Joel Rosen and his wife
are the only ones who know for sure.  I only found one in the super car registry.  That
same car is in the "Chevy SS:  50 years of super sport book.  It is also in the "Camaro - 40
years" by Darwin Holstrom.

The Baldwin Motion concept was a joint venture between Baldwin Chevrolet and Motion
Performance to change engine and do whatever the customer wanted.   Motion
Performance worked the suspension over so it would hook properly.  The chassis work
was a big part of their low times on the drag strip.

They devoted 6 full pages along with the picture in the Chevy SS book.  The Camaro
40 year book also has a little more information in it. You can go to a bookstore &
check it out!

These cars were being built before the COPO cars were ever thought of.  That is what
makes Baldwin Motion cars so special.  A real '68 Phase III car would be worth
$500,000 or maybe $1 million or more.

In the Mid-60's (1966), Motion was putting big engines in new cars.

Look at the natural lines of the car - they are laser straight!  The doors open & shut perfect,
the trim lines are just as it should be.  This car looks better than it did when it was new.  The
car was taken apart and all parts hung up when it was painted.  All the door jams were edged
in and look perfect.  It has been painted over 2 1/2 years.  This shows that there are no
problems with rust or there would be bubbles.  There are no rust issues with this car.  In the
time since it has been restored, it has been driven less than 400 miles.  All weather stripping
has been replaced plus the seal plates are new as well slots of chrome inside.  I talked to the
guy sold it 15 years ago.  It has always been a great car and taken great care of.  Please call
me for more history.  I have history back past 1994 and one owner owned it for 13 years.

All of these pictures were taken in full sun, partial sun, or clouds.  I took pictures in all
conditions so that you could seem the car in its natural setting.   In full sun, they glare
because the car is very shiny.  These pictures  tell the story.  They aren't doctored with
a photo editing software.

They are the real thing!

I forgot to mention all of the body panels are original GM factory.  There was a small patch
panel put on one quarter.

9

This 454 has the torque and  power in front of this Turbo 400 to move it down the road
pretty fast.  It was built with the best of parts to perform on the street and be driver
friendly on 92 octane pump gas.  It does have a cam, but it is not radical.  Power steering
and disc brakes make it a pleasure to drive.  The turbo 400 shifts good and hard to second
when you get on her, but if you are driving in town it is smooth as it should be.  A great
driving car with plenty of power for the street.  The sound is great not too loud, but has
that really good spunky sound that flowmasters make.

The car has never failed to start and it runs good after it's started.  It starts so easy without
pumping the gas it is unreal.

9a

Best of all - the stripes are painted on with no ridges.  The paint is slick as ice.  I have a 2"
cowl hood painted that will go with the car if it meets the reserve.

All new chrome & emblems

13

14

15

17

Seat belts & shoulder straps front & rear has seat belts too.

18

Steward Warner vintage gauges are period correct.

19

Super Sun tach was one of Motion's trademarks.  Odometer, speedometer, tach & gas gauges,
heater controls & the lower vents all work.  The chrome on Astro Vent is new, but it
doesn't work.

22

23

There is a small scratch in the horn ring.  I have a SS horn button to go there & I will put
it on.

24

When you open the door, the buzzer goes off & dome light comes on.  The doors can be
opened &shut with one finger.

25

Alll new chrome bumpers, front & rear bumper guards, Craiger wheels & tires are new.  Both
door handles and both rear view mirrors - the lower rocker stainless - the drip rail stainless -
all the emblems that are chrome and the door edge chrome is new, as well.  I probably left
off something - just too much to list.

27

28

It has Hooker headers.  It has late model wide belt pulleys for everything except
power steering & it is on a single V belt by itself.

The black on the fender wells & firewall is just right, not too glossy, the way it should be.

30

32

When this car was apart, the subframe was out and all bushings, pins and everything it needed was replaced before the subframe was put back in with new body bushings to the frame & front shocks.  It also had body to frame body mounts.

33

Deep sunk trans pan as you can see here the frame rails are connected.

36

The car was immaculate underneath when it was first done.  I had it uptown at the shop
when it came a shower.  When it dried up a bit I drove it home, but in traffic I got forced
to go through some water that was dirty.  The gray splatters in the pictures are from the
dirty water.  I will put it on a rack & pressure wash the bottom.

37

40

It has frame rail connectors & the old school Lakewood traction bars on it.  This was
something that Motion was noted for.  It only has the 10 bolt rear end with 355 or 373 gears,
I would say.  Oh, it has a Z-28 style exhaust (Flowmaster) that sounds great.  This picture
was taken before the Lakewood traction bars were added.   The gas tank is new.   It just looks better
painted black instead of silver.

41

The trunk is neat & clean with molded mat.  It is solid as a rock and was done right.  I will put
a good spare & Rally wheel in it.

43

The speakers are Pioneer.  The radio is a replica with cassette.  It looks good for a
reproduction to replace original.   It has a great sound and I put old vintage flat speaker
grills & the top side to keep it time period correct.

44

45

46

I finished putting the new air shocks & Lakewoods on when I took these pictures, so you
could see that all lights work as they should.
