JERRY MACNEISH CERTIFIED, ORIGINAL SHEET METAL, MATCHING NUMBERS ENGINE, 4-SPEED, 1969 COPO CAMARO!

SEPT, 4TH WEEK 1969 PRODUCED CAR--THIS MAY BE THE LAST COPO CAMARO EVER PRODUCED

NADA Classic and Muscle Car Guide & Directory Value:  $243,800

In the late 1960s, a small number of Chevrolet dealerships (Yenko, Gibbs, Berger, etc) with performance in mind figured out how to use Chevrolet’s Central Office Production Ordering (COPO) system to get around Chevrolet’s 400 cubic-inch engine limitation.  They and others used the COPO system to create and order very small numbers of what would become some of the most devastatingly fast muscle cars of all time.

The 1969 COPO Camaro you see here most likely was ordered as a COPO #9561.  COPO #9561 came with all the same items as the legendary and even more rare ZL-1 Camaro (all-aluminum 427/430 HP engine) but was much cheaper to buy without the aluminum 427 and transistorized ignition.  The COPO 9561 package included the cast iron L72 427/425 hp engine, special ducted hood, heavy-duty cooling, the special 4.10 'BE' axle, power front discs and one of 4 optional heavy-duty transmissions.

Although Yenko, Berger and Gibbs are the best known, highest volume dealers of COPO cars, COPOs were also ordered by many other lesser known Chevrolet dealerships.  Accurate total production records for non ZL-1 1969 COPO Camaros do not seem to exist, however the best estimate of total production for non ZL-1 1969 COPO Camaros is 193 automatics and 822 4-speeds, for a total of 1015 COPO 9561 cars.  These numbers are likely higher than actual COPOs produced because they are derived from total engine block production, which included extra replacement blocks for warranty problems.  This beautifully restored, Fathom Green 69 COPO Camaro is one of that very small, very rare groupThe vehicle is documented as original, authentic, numbers matching engine, non re-bodied car by well known Camaro appraiser Jerry MacNeish.  The original cowl tag remains with the car and the car's matching VIN # has been documented beneath the cowl grate, under the heater box cover and on the engine stamp area near the oil filter.

1969 Chevrolet COPO Camaro.  Numbers matching 427/425 HP engine (freshly rebuilt and very strong) nearly all-original sheet metal, not re-bodied, low, low 30,255 original miles and certified by well known Camaro appraiser Jerry MacNeish to be an authentic, numbers matching engine, 4-speed 1969 COPO Camaro.  Correct 4-speed Muncie M-21 close-ratio transmission, BE coded 4.10 geared HD 12-bolt axle.  Fathom Green exterior with nearly all-original Midnight Green interior.  Date-coded XT wheels with NOS Chevy “Dog Dish” hub caps.  Optioned with power disc brakes, rear spoiler and front air dam, rare interior console with gauges, Rosewood steering wheel, AM radio, clock and bucket-seat head rests.
