1990 Camaro Iroc-Z

1LE edition Road Course Race Car

Factory 1 LE option

Only 34 of these made for 1990

305 cid “BILMAR” Tuned Port Injection engine – Built by the late Marv Palmer of BILMAR.  This engine has special cylinder heads and internals.  Balanced and blueprinted to the max.  This engine made this car 3 seconds a lap quicker and has topped out at over 150 mph at Daytona at 5000 rpms in 5th gear.

I am the original owner.  Purchased the car from Young Chevrolet in Texas and drove the car home from Texas to Florida to break the car in.  Bolted in a roll cage and set and went racing in the SSGT class.

We have raced hundreds of races including practice days.  this car has been superb.  Only 3 Dnfs in the whole time we have run this car.  We have set track records at Roebling Road, Daytona, Sebring, Homestead, etc.  At one stretch, we won 17 races in a row!  We won the SouthEast SCCA Endurance Race Championship 10 of the 11 years we ran the car.  This car has far exceeded our expectations and I hope it gets a nice new home with a caring owner.

5 speed manual “world class” edition close ratio transmission

Special order car with IROC stripe delete

No air conditioning- factory AC delete

Corvette PBR aluminum brakes front and rear

Heavy duty large rotors

Aluminum radiator

K& N Air Filters

Modified air box

3.42 rear end ratio with locked rear end and welded up professionally

Custom brake proportioning valve by Special Vehicle Operations

Custom BILMAR larger fuel tank

Custom Pontiac GTA lightweight wheels- Factory IROC wheels available

Aluminum Drive shaft

Fiberglass Z-28 lightweight hood

AutoPower bolt in roll cage with custom side bars

This car has never been in a major accident!  Only some “rubbing is racing” incidents”

Sponsored by Chevrolet in 1990-1992

Sponsored by Valvoline in 1993

Sponsored by Red Line Oil 1993-2000

Last race I raced was at Daytona International Speedway.  Started 5th in an hour and half endurance race.  Lapped the entire field with 68 cars running!!  We beat some big names such as Sylvain Tremblay.

We have replaced the front fenders with some factory original ones.  The hood is a lightweight fiberglass one from a 1982 Z-28.  This saved us 14lbs!  Right hand door has been replaced and does not have a window or insides.

There is some rust on the firewall and some surface rust from sitting outside.  I would recommend going through the brake system and change all fluids and fuel.  The car starts right up and runs nicely.  Car is not registered on the street.  This car is not sold as street legal.  I have the original title in my name as the original owner and the title is from North Carolina.  I think the original title shows 35 miles on it.  Car shows 25,748 miles.

All items are believed to be correct but subject to correction.  Car is located in 33462 Lantana, Florida  (North of Boca Raton and south of West Palm Beach.)  Please feel free to e-mail to set up an appointment to view the car.  The trailer is also available for $750 or best offer.

The power steering hose is leaking and it probably needs a neww heavy duty battery.  I would recommend changing the brake fluid and rebuilding the brake calipers and replacing the brake lines.  We have a bunch of spare parts such as the original seats, etc. that would come with the car.

We also have some spare parts available for purchase at an additional price:

Spare world class 5 speed Transmission available for Purchase

Spare 305 blueprinted engine

Spare new front 1-LE rotors

Original exhaust muffler

Spare 305 heads

We reserve the right to end the auction early due to listing on other sites and locally advertised.  Feel free to e-mail at sks91@comcast.net

On Nov-01-09 at 16:40:07 PST, seller added the following information:

The car has special Bilstein shock absorbers both front and rear.  The valving is from Winston Cup cars and was done directly from the Bilstein factory in Californina.  A huge handling difference was noticed!

Sparco fiberglass driving seat-the seat would need to be recovered

We always used Castrol SRF racing heavy duty brake fluid

Hotchkis rear trailing arms installed and front strut tower brace installed.  this helped stiffen up the front of the car nicely.

Urethane heavy duty bushings on the control arms and sway bars

We have wired the radiator fan to stay on when ever the car was on.

We also used heavy duty blue silicone radiator hoses and this helped cooling nicely.

front brake ducts were installed with hoses and front brake scoops were custom done like a Porsche 944S2

Custom extra large fuel tank was installed.  Note this is a factory fuel tank and NOT a fuel cell

Car was originally run in the Firestone Firehawk series for a race and then into SCCA in the SSGT class and then into ITGT class which was a SE regional class similar to American Sedan.  ITE was also available in the NE at the time.  I am not sure what classes the car can run now.  The car has never been wrecked!!

We have installed heavy duty jack plate areas in the center of the car.  I.e. a heavy steel plate so it would make jacking the car up easy.

This car is an end of an era for me and my father.  We have shared some good times together and traveled all over the SE with this car.  We have won so many times in the car!  Some victories include Rockingham, Atlanta Motor Speedway, Daytona, Sebring, Homestead, Moroso, Road Atlanta, Roebling Road and Charlotte.

This car was set up for Endurance racing.

Toyo tires that are on the car would need to be replaced for racing.

For the winning bidder, we would share our knowledge and help answer any questions that you may have.   It truly is an end of an era for us and I have decided to take my dad fishing with the money that the car sells for.

The trailer is available for an additional fee.  Please not that this car is not licensed to drive on the street at this time.  I am sure you could put it back to street legal if you so desire.

Questions and answers about this item

Q: Was there and do you have a log book for this car? Joe
A: YES, we have the original log books for the car. I think there are 2 or 3 of them. Also have a huge book of race results and lots of parts with GM numbers that we have ordered along the way.

Q: Hi what class is this capable of running in scca or others ie vara? I see itgt, ssgt,& ite on car? thanks R.A.
A: We last raced in ITGT. I am sure you could easily make this into A-sedan. ITE was a NE class and it was allowed in that class. I think you can use it in American Iron too. I have not raced in years and not sure about Vara.
