The seller believes this is a true Camaro R/S. It was originally a 6 cylinder, 3 speed car, but the seller converted it to a 327, automatic. The original color was white, but it was professionally painted 20 years ago and is now red. The top and interior are believed to be the original color.
DETAILS OF CAR:
[ Paint ] - Starting at the front of the hood, we see a bit of fish eyes and gels throughout (probably a couple dozen). The cowl shows a bit of an orange peel effect, but it looks good for a 20 year old paint job.
The driver’s fenders and door show a few minor fish eyes or gels. They are hard to see, until you get about 5ft away from the car. The rear deck shows fine fish eyes or gels, and there is a chip on the rear spoiler.
There are some chips on the passenger front fender above the wheel opening, but is otherwise in good shape. There is a 1/8" chip above the front bumper, close to the driver’s front headlight. There are also some chips on the lower front valance below the bumper. The bumper has some light abrasion, and the Chevy and Camaro emblems show very fine pitting.
The grill area is in very good shape with very little evidence of "sand blasting". The front turn signal bezels show a little corrosion. The driver’s front fender and the Camaro and 327 emblems show light pitting. The paint on the flag emblems could use a touch up as well.
[ Body ] – The body looks very straight, and all of the gaps appear very uniform. Everything seems to be aligned properly, and it all looks good. In going over the Camaro with a paint gauge, the average pull is about 14 mils, but it also dipped down to 8 mils in some areas.
[ Chrome/Bright Work ] – Most of the chrome and bright work on this Camaro seems to be intact, and just shows normal wear. Scroll down and click through all of the up-close photos to see some of the areas that are scratched and/or pitted (stainless around windows, door handles, bumpers, etc).
The bright work around the side windows, vent windows, and the mirror looks nice. We do not detect any major issues, except for a little bit of pitting on the driver’s mirror arm. There are some baby fine scratches on the driver door handle. The bright work around the rear passenger window is extremely scratched. The aluminum on the bottom rocker has fine scratches, and the edge of the rear wheel opening shows debris from the front wheel.
The rear bumper has some light pitting and scratches on the top. The gas cap could be polished and the black could use a touchup. The top of the rear fender has light scratches, and the rear fender wheel opening shows some stone chips.
There are some light scratches/or pitting on the passenger door handle, the rocker, and around the windows. There is very fine pitting on the mirror, and a few little dings on the stainless A pillar. There is another ding above the wiper. The antenna and emblems (Camaro and 327) show very light pitting.
[ Glass ] –The seller tells us he thinks all of the glass is original. The windshield looks like it has slight flea bites from years of driving, but the rest of the glass looks nice. We did not detect any scratches. The rear plastic window does not show anything major here.
[ Top ] – The convertible top was replaced 2 years ago and has not seen much weather since then. The seller states he has put less than 500 miles on it since then.
[ Interior ] – According to the seller, he believes everything on the dash is original except for the after market radio. The dash shows some wear, and some of the chrome on the plastic knobs is coming off, but it looks like it is all there.
The seller tells us the console is a replacement, but it is correct for an automatic Camaro. The bright work around the top of the console and shifter show some light pitting and scratches. The chrome on the convertible top release shows some pitting.
The seller believes the door handles and panels are also original. The door and vent window handles show some pitting. The seat covers are OEM replacements and were added 2 years ago. The front carpet was replaced about 20 years ago; the rear some years later.
[ Trunk ] – Inside the trunk, there is a mat and spare, but we did not see a jack or lug wrench. Scroll down and click on the pictures where we removed the floor mat. We did not detect any rust perforation – and you can see how solid and original the trunk looks.
[ Tires and Wheels ] – All of the tires are size P225 / 60R 14’s. The wheels are in excellent condition with no visible signs of damage.
[ Engine ] – Everything under the hood appears clean with no visible leaks. The engine was originally a 6 cylinder but was switched to a period 327 c.i. The seller states that it was rebuilt at the time of installation.
On the engine deck, we saw the following info: F0824DE. On the manifold, we saw: 17862. Please look closely at pictures, and do your own research to verify.
[ Chassis ] – The chassis is solid with light surface rust in areas where the factory undercoating has peeled away. There was no perforation detected. The frame exhibits the same as the floor pans with no perforation detected. The trunk and the gas tank appear to be in solid condition. The suspension and other drive train components have grease build-up.
[ Mechanical ] – All of the lights and gauges seem to function properly. The hideaway headlights will open, but the relay for closing is not working. The transmission safety switch does not function – it is missing, according to the seller. To drive the car, you must have your foot on the brake while engaging the transmission.
The car seems to start easily, hot or cold. It steers straight, with just a minor pull to the left. It also pulls slightly left upon braking. The transmission shifts smoothly and crisply while changing gears. The ride is smooth for a car this age, and there was no abnormal wind noise detected. Everything about this Camaro seems sound.
