12,023 Actual Mile 1978 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 4 Speed!

Have you tracked second gen F-Bodies lately? They're skyrocketing, and why not? They're distinctive, everybody knows SOMEONE who had one and they're a blast to own. Trans Ams and Firebirds had a decent survival rate thanks to Burt Reynolds, but if you can find a cleaner '78 Camaro with lower miles, you really should buy it. Sinister in its black and gold paint scheme, carrying just over 12,000 original miles, wearing its original paint and having its original build sheet, sales documents, Protect-O-Plate, plus a four speed manual, this is one to keep.

They say you're only young once, and it applies to unrestored cars, too. Full restorations can help align doors, get the rattles out and make a car feel young again, but it's never the same as a well-preserved, low-mile original. Everything's different, from the feel of the steering to the ride quality to the scent of the interior. It's truly a treat to experience a car like this!

Considering it's original, the black paint is in incredible condition. Usually paint jobs from this era made Maaco employees feel proud of themselves, but this car's nice and shiny—even the bumpers match. which is something you don't usually find. The aluminum wheels are perfect in their gold and machined finish, and are wrapped in Goodyear Aquatred tires. That's right, Aquatreads. And they look brand new.

Restraint alone didn't keep this car this nice, though—a nice indoor home did just as much. Rubber trim parts, the dash pad and other items which wither in UV light are as new, and the all the taillights need is a dusty box to call them NOS pieces. Dig the original dealer badge on the rear bumper, proudly calling out Southview Chevrolet in Inver Grove Heights, MN as the original selling dealer.

Sitting inside is like taking a trip back to 1978. Check out the "simulated rope" steering wheel that was standard on the Z/28. Who knew such a thing existed? But here it is, mint! The seats are perfect, the dash is unblemished and the carpet is clean. The shifter operates crisply and looks flawless, too. Basically, if you can touch it, it's perfect!

The base price for a Z/28 was $5603, while the sales form on this car showed a price of $6647! Since the car didn't look "loaded" in the traditional sense, we did some additional research. Looking at the build sheet, you can easily see how Chevrolet would nickel and dime you to death if you didn't pay close attention!

Build sheet options:

1FQ87 Camaro Z28 Sport Coupe, 8-cylinder $5,603.85
AK1 Color keyed seat belts $21.00
AN6 Adjustable seat back $21.00
A01 Tinted glass $56.00
B37 Floor mats front and rear $20.00
B80 Roof drip molding $23.00
B93 Door edge guards $11.00
CD4 Intermittent wipers $32.00
C50 Rear window defroster $51.00
D55 Console $80.00
J50 Power Brakes $39.00
LM1 Engine 350-185hp (Z28 only)
M21 4 speed close ratio (Z28 only)
N33 Tilt steering $69.00
N65 Stowaway spare
QRZ GR70-15 white letter tires (included with Z28)
UA1 Heavy duty battery $18.00
U05 Dual horns $7.00
U14 Gauge package (included with Z28 & LT)
U35 Clock $20.00
U76 Windshield antenna $25.00
VO1 Heavy duty cooling (included with Z28)
YJ8 Aluminum wheels $265.00
ZJ9 Auxiliary lighting $34.00
Z21 Style trim group $70.00

$11 Here, $34 there…it makes sense now! There are such silly things that weren't free, like the second horn or seat belts that matched your interior or a clock, all things that we take for granted today. There was no factory radio on the build sheet, but that was taken care of by the dealer, who installed an Audiovox AM/FM stereo with CB. Yep, this was the 70's all right. They were even nice enough to roll it on to the sales invoice.

The original owner ordered this car in March of '78, receiving it in June. There's a receipt for a mere $100 deposit on the car. Can you imagine a dealer taking so little to special order a car like this today? While we're on documents, we have the original owner's manual packet complete with the Protect-O-Plate, the warranty card, the tire and space saver information pieces, the punched-out key codes, the pre delivery inspection sheet, the original stock number hang tag, the salesman's card and a little black book.

Mechanically the car's in great shape and is as close to original as you're going to find in anything built during the Carter administration. A new battery and cables join new coolant hoses for drivability's sake, but the VAST majority of components are original down to the belts and spark plug wires. Cosmetically the engine compartment and undercarriage are very nice, with an original sheen on the inner fender wells and trim and an even coating of undercoating on the bottom (it's on the sales order, too).

Found another 2nd gen Camaro like this one yet? More to the point, a four speed Z/28 in black? I didn't think so. 12,000 mile cars don't grow on trees, original paperwork is nearly always lost, and original owner cars are as rare as hen's teeth. Combined that makes this a heck of a collectable, and one that's appreciating in value as you read this. Call us today so someone else doesn't drive your car home tonight.

About this auction & Best of Show Automotive

Convinced that collector car values are plummeting? Don't be fooled! While the value of mediocre cars has been steadily sliding with the economy over the past two years, the value of incredible cars has stayed level and, is rising. In times of economic uncertainty, capital flows to the highest quality assets which contain the least amount of risk and the classic car market is no exception. The lesson is simple: buy the very best you can find!

Please note that all sales are binding and final. Our cars are sold "as-is" with no warranty expressed or implied. Please carefully read the terms & conditions of the sale before bidding. Winning this auction does not entitle you to come inspect the car and decide if you want to buy it, but obligates you to complete the purchase! A $1000.00 deposit via PayPal is due within 24 hours of the auction close ... NO EXCEPTIONS.

We do not release our reserve prices, as this would be unfair to the other bidders, so please don't ask!

Note that our cars are on display in our showroom in Mentor, Ohio, in national print advertisements, listed for sale on our website, and listed for sale in multiple, nationally known, online dealer showrooms at all times. Since our cars are for sale in a number of other mediums, we reserve the right to cancel the auction at any time.

Best of Show Automotive sells approximately 40 cars each and every month to collectors worldwide. Each and every one of these cars is listed on Ebay, but only one sale, on average per month, actually occurs on Ebay. Accordingly, if you see a car you like, don't wait! Call us! When you see it disappear, it means that it sold to someone who saw it somewhere else. Lastly, note that we do not change our pricing on any car based on Ebay auction activity. Ebay is a wholesale marketing platform, which we use primarily for marketing purposes.

If you have ZERO feedback on Ebay, please call or email us to request our authority to bid on our vehicles. And, for you con-men and women out there, while you may think it's cute to create a user account and click the Buy It Now on a high dollar car you can't afford, note that we will track you down and we will recoup our costs for fraudulent bidding activity.

This car can be inspected at our 60,000 square foot office complex and showroom facility, operated as the Mentor Museum of Speed, located at 7700 Tyler Boulevard, in Mentor, Ohio, six days per week. Museum hours are 10 am to 5 pm daily, Monday through Friday, and 10 am to 4 pm Saturdays. You may stop in at any time during museum hours to view our collection. If you would like to make a sales appointment (and avoid paying the ten buck admission fee), we would be happy to schedule a personal appointment with you. To do so, contact Joseph Carroll below. For those of you who need to fly in, we can provide transportation to and from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. We can also provide accommodations within walking distance of our facility.

We can transport your new vehicle to you in one of our enclosed car haulers. Cost depends on mileage and location. Our Transportation Manager, Ron Meek, stands ready to help you with your transport needs. For a quote, call Ron at: (440)350-1480. Ron's direct email address is: Ron.Meek@bestofshowautomotive.com.

For those international buyers, note that we've shipped cars to collectors and classic car fans world-wide for years. You can feel confident in our representations, and post-sale service. Our Transportation Manager, Ron Meek, stands ready to help your transport & shipping needs.

A common question we receive is: "do you accept trades"? We do accept trades, but will only consider #1 or #2 condition vehicles. If you would like us to review a trade, please send detailed pictures of the entire car, including the underside. Also send a detailed description which includes all specifications, facts, figures, history and documentation present with the car. Lastly, give us a clear idea of what you are seeking in trade value. Email information on your trade directly to Joseph Carroll. Joe's email address is: Joseph.Carroll@bestofshowautomotive.com.
