1973 Chevrolet Chevelle
| |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Up for sale is a very unique Chevrolet! I am thinning out my car collection to get some space, and make room for a couple of recent acquisitions. This is a 1973 Chevelle Malibu SS (Super Sport) Colonnade Coupe. 1973 was the last year for the Chevelle SS, and to my knowledge, less than 3000 of these were built, making it a pretty rare car, especially after 36 years! In 1973, the Chevelle Laguna with the rubber nose was introduced as a companion car to the regular Chevelle. The following year, the SS Chevelle was dropped entirely, and the Laguna became known as the Laguna S-3. With the first energy crisis of the 1970s, sporty V8 cars were not selling well, so 2 models were combined into one in 1974. This car is equipped with 350/4 Barrel engine, dual exhaust, automatic transmission, power steering, power disc brakes, COLD air conditioning, am/fm cassette, CD player, and the very desireable and unique combination of SWIVEL BUCKET SEATS and console shift (automatic on the floor). Not too many Chevelles were equipped with this package. Most had bench seats. This Chevelle has all the standard SS package features such as special SS grille and body emblems, special instrument cluster, handling package, sport mirrors, special SS paint and stripe treatment, and interior SS badges. This car is a true SS! It is NOT a "Clone" or "Tribute" car! It is not a car that has been made up or hacked together. This car has only had 2 other owners, besides me. It has 64,000 actual miles! This is what I would call a "Survivor" car. It has not been dented, wrecked, or rusted. The body is incredibly straight! It still has all its original GM body panels. The original owner had this car repainted once in the original colors about 16 to 17 years ago, just due to some fading and checking of the original lacquer paint. GM cars of this era were known for this. The paint still looks great, and has a nice shine. There are some minor nicks and imperfections that are to be expected with a car this age, but it still makes a really nice appearance. There is very little to none in the way of door dings or "shopping cart rash" that you usually see with a car that is more than a few years old. This car is amazingly straight and true! Body, frame, floors, and trunk floor are all nice, clean, and solid, with no rust issues. The interior on this SS is amazingly nice! The seats, door panels, and dash are all immaculate! There are no rips, tears, or cracks. The colors are nice and bright; not faded or worn looking. I have seen 2 and 3 year old cars that do not look this nice inside! The carpet has been replaced. Its color matches the rest of the interior. The inside color is a saddle tan. Also, the plastic interior components are all nice and supple. They are not brittle or cracked as you often see on cars of this era. The chrome, moldings, and brightwork on this car are also all original and nice. I don't see anything that is missing, broken, or dented. The doors do not sag, and they open and close easily. Everything about this car is nice and tight. The engine and transmission are nice and strong! The car stays dry underneath, and I have never noticed any smoke, leakage, or oil burning. Transmission shifts great, and the car rides beautifully at all speeds. It is very powerful and smooth. Everything works on the car. Air conditioning has been converted to R-134 and is ICE COLD! About a month ago, this Chevelle was driven on a 12 hour 800 mile trip. It got 19MPG on 87 octane regular unleaded, and gave no problems. We had no oil useage issues. Recent repairs and maintenance include tires, brakes, belts, hoses, exhaust, AC conversion, new radiator, transmission rebuilt (still worked fine, but was leaking, so had it gone completely through), and tune-up. I would not hesitate to hop in this car and drive it anywhere. I have been getting 15-16 MPG local driving, and as I say on the trip, car got 19 MPG. It is very obvious that this SS has always been adult owned, and has not been butchered or beat up by some over-eager teenager or hot rodder. The only deviations from stock are that the car has a vintage "Period Retro" set of Cragar SS 5 spoked chrome mag wheels, and also that a modern "USA-1" style AM/FM Cassette player has been put in the dash in place of the original AM radio. These USA-1 style units are designed to fit the original dash cavity without tearing up or modifications. It does have 2 speakers in the rear package tray, but it was a very professional job, and anyway repro trays are available for $50 or less. Also, a CD changer has been installed in the trunk. It works in combination with the stereo. Likewise, it was a very professional installation, and nothing was done to damage or alter the trunk compartment. For the "Purist", these minor modifications are very easily reverseable. Also, excellent reproduction Chevrolet SS Rally Wheels are available for $400 per set complete. If you want to bring the car back to 100% original, you could buy a set of them and sell the Cragars for more than that! I like the Cragars because it gives the car an early 1970s "Period" look. Please feel free to contact me at 704-661-1326 or 704-827-8138 if you have any questions. I have set a reasonable reserve. Don't miss this nice original car!
About me: I keep a small "rotating car collection" of 5 to 10 nice old cars from the late 1950s to late 1970s. I will sometimes sell a car out of my collection to make way for a "new arrival" as time and space demand. I like nice original stock "survivor" cars that have not been customized or modified. I have owned and been interested in vintage cars for nearly 35 years! I have liked them since they were $500 "gas guzzlers" that no one wanted! LOL! Now for the rules: 1. A NON-REFUNDABLE partial payment of $1500 is due within 48 hours of auction's close. This can be done by money order via overnight mail, or bank wire transfer. Pay Pal is NOT acceptable for this. 2. Balance is due within 7 days of auction's close. 3. Please have your money arranged, and all contingencies handled BEFORE you bid! If you are the successful bidder, you are expected to pay! 4. Car is sold strictly AS-IS, WHERE-IS, with NO warranties expressed or implied. 5. Transportation is strictly the buyer's responsibility. I will help you all I reasonably can with logistics and arrangements, but it is still YOUR responsibility. 6. Car is for sale here locally. I reserve right to end auction at any time if it sells through that venue. Please feel free to e-mail me or call me at 704-661-1326 or 704-827-8138 to discuss the car further, or to explore an early buying opportunity. 7. It is ok if you cannot physically pick up the car within 7 days of auction's end. It can be stored here for a reasonable time, free of charge. Just car must be paid for within the 7 day period after close of auction. Also, be sure you have insurance arranged, as storage will be at buyer's risk. I cannot be responsible for acts of God, or circumstances beyond my control. 8. Car and title will not leave here until car is paid for with CLEARED FUNDS. If you are paying balance upon pick-up of vehicle, balance must be paid in CASH ONLY. 9. I have never done this before, but I realize these classic American cars are sought after by European hobbyists and collectors. I will allow international buyers to bid, but if sold internationally, this car MUST BE PAID FOR BY CLEARED US FUNDS BEFORE IT IS ALLOWED TO LEAVE MY CONTROL! NO EXCEPTIONS! My banker tells me that in an international transaction, an international wire transfer in US funds is best. This is what I will insist on as payment from an international buyer. Any other payments can take up to 60 days to clear! Sorry for all the rules, but it seems that a very small percentage of difficult people ruin it for the vast majority who are good. Thanks a lot for looking, and please feel free to call cell at 704-661-1326. Please leave message if I am not in, or feel free to e-mail me with your phone number and questions.
On Nov-09-09 at 15:45:56 PST, seller added the following information: Please Note: Due to higher incidence of "deadbeat bidders" who don't pay after they win, you MUST contact me for approval by e-mail or phone BEFORE you bid, if ANY of the following apply to you: 1. You have been an E-bay member for less than 6 months. 2. You have a feedback rating of less than 10. 3. You have a feedback rating of less than 98%. 4. You have had 2 or more negative feedbacks within the last 6 months. I realize things can happen to bring about these occurences that have perfectly logical explanations, but I need to talk to you first and have you get approval if any of these conditions apply to you. Failure to do so may result in your bid being cancelled and your being blocked from bidding on any of my items. Thanks very much for your understanding and cooperation. Again, I realize that a very small percentage of difficult people tend to spoil it for the vast majority who are good. Also, thanks for all the questions and bids. As of this time, reserve has been met, and there are over 150 people watching this car! Someone is going to buy a sharp car at a reasonable price! Best of luck!
