1964 Chevrolet Nova 400 Series
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This is a RARE little Nova. 1964 Chevy II Nova, 400 Series, Sport Coupe, V8, 3-speed, Built on the Third Week of January at Norwood, Ohio assembly plant. VIN # 40437N164423. TRIM TAG READS: 01C 64-0437 5300 733 912 W2S3C B. Plug the info into this trim tag decoder link for 1964. http://www.novashop.net/decode/trim/index.htm Original 400 series V8 car with Blue Buckets and options including: A02 Tinted Windshield, U73 Rear Antenna and B70 Padded dash. This is the first year that Chevy stuffed the 283 V8 power plant into the Chevy II Nova. It shares the same VIN designation (04) as the SS Sport Coupe. I looked up the numbers on the engine, heads and block and figured out that the motor was replaced with a 1967 327 by the previous owner. It has the 3884520 1.72 x 1.5 60cc 283-327 "power pack" heads and the short block is a 67-69 "HB" stamped block which is either a 275 or 300 horsepower motor. Transmission was a originally a 3 on the tree but has been moved to the floor with a Hurst 3-speed shifter. It has all 5 lug axles and the rear is a 10 bolt with 2inch CPP lowering blocks and traction bars. I bought this Nova a while back from the 3rd owner. This car was virtually unmolested as far as the body goes. The car looked to have been painted only once before in the original color. When I pulled the door panels off, the insides of the doors still had the original paper with seam sealer on them from the factory. The front clip looked as if it had never been taken apart as well. I tried to keep the car as period correct as I could. I rebuilt the original Rochester 4GC carb and topped it off with a new OEM air cleaner from Classic Industries. Has original 3-core Harrison radiator that was just repaired and leak tested. Coolant was flushed and replaced with new thermostat. Oil and oil filter was just changed. I cleaned up and painted the entire engine compartment and detailed the motor. I have the original chevrolet script valve covers painted correct Chevy orange if someone wants to go that route. The aftermarket ones were an easy solution to the crank case venting issues I had because the previous owner plugged up the down draft tube with a freeze plug. I also installed a remote starter solenoid set up. This car was a factory bucket seats car but when I bought it it had some newer Camaro buckets. I found a split bench seat with matching rear seat to throw in because finding original buckets is near impossible. Car has NEW: Carpet Kit with Jute sound barrier, door panels, package tray, kick panels, headliner (not installed), trunk and door weatherstripping, trunk and cove moldings, Die Hard Battery (with warranty from Sears), and air cleaner. Before painting, the Nova was inspected for rust and the only bad spot was on the driver rear bottom quarter. Rust was cut out and replaced with new metal patch panel. There were a couple pin holes in the rear window channel that got spot welded bought very minor. Floor pans were solid. The trunk has a couple pin holes but nothing too major. I didn't feel it was worthy of a new trunk pan. I was going to fiberglass over the few spots and then trunk paint but I will leave that up to the buyer. I have pictures of all body work if you are interested as well as floor pans before carpet was installed. Nova was painted the original 912 Silver Blue Metallic. All emblems were restored and are in nice shape. The side trim holes were filled because a few of them were in bad shape and you can't get repos. Bumpers are pretty nice. One dent on right side of rear bumper. Front grill has one dent (barely noticeable). Hood could use alignment (I got it as good as I could but got scared to chip the paint). The Nova runs great. It could use some new points or just a general tune up. The brakes need to be flushed because it was sitting for a while before I got it and the fluid is dirty. I bled them once but didn't get too crazy on them. The pads all have good life on them I have been cruising the car around and it runs good. All in all its a sweet little ride. Just needs some fine tuning or take it to the next level. My initial plan for the car was to go pro touring but it was hard for me to start going aftermarket when this car was so unique and pretty original. It's kinda cooler than an SS because you don't see any 400 series and if you do someone probably just made them SS clones because they have the same VIN. Let me know If you have any questions or concerns or want pictures of anything. Thanks for looking. I just took more pics of the undercarriage and rear end. It has dual exhaust that I cut just above the rear end. I will post more as I remember details but once again feel free to call or email me with any questions or concerns. Car is currently on non-op registration. I meant to have a "Buy It Now" price for $12,000 but since I did not put a reserve on my Nova, my buy it now got erased after the first bid. I didn't know that was the deal. Any way, this NOVA will SELL as A NO RESERVE Auction I guess. BID TO WIN. THANKS. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
