The very popular ’46 Chrysler is a rare and special car - and this one was restored to be enjoyed. Basically, this convertible was designed to be fun, great looking, driver car

DETAILS OF CAR:

[ Paint ] – Basically, Chad could not find a nick anywhere on this car (even on the nose!), as it has received a fairly recent repaint. There is a tiny nick where the hood meets the left front fender (right at the chrome), but that is pretty much the extent of it. The paint matches perfectly and is very shiny. It does have a slight amount of light orange peel which is pretty common in these types of repaints. It appears to be a semi-professional repaint, and you can only see a few imperfections under very close scrutiny (under bright lights). 

[ Body ] – The body is very nice and straight. We cannot be 100% sure that it was restored exactly as the 1946 Highlander was built, but it is very close/similar. It looks about as close to original as a restored car like this might look.

It appears that the rust repair that was performed on the lower section was done in keeping the body very similar to the original lines. The fits on the doors, trunk, and hood all appear to be in good order. When the car was raised on the rack, we did not see much flex in car at all (which is a good sign as far as the chassis is concerned [see chassis remarks below]).

In going over the car with a magnet, the hood and trunk seem free of rust perforation and any major rust repair (although there is a slight chip on the right rocker panel edge). We assume there was probably some fairly involved rust repair and reconstruction in the lower 1/3 – 1/4 of the sides; but the sides and the rest look great – very nice and straight. Overall, the car just shows beautifully.

[ Chassis ] – From what you can see of the frame and frame rails, they seem to be in good condition. There appears to be no rust perforation, except for a small portion about 1ft behind the steering box in the frame (see photos). What you can see of the floor pans (between the frame rails) looks solid and in pretty good condition. It may have had some repair work over the years, as it does not have any noticeable perforation. Between the rockers and the frame rails, there is a section that was "closed in" for appearance (and the panels were added).

Above the rear end, it looks like there has been some repair work where the floor meets the trunk. It seems to have a light repair, but seems complete and weather tight at this time. It appears that the bottoms of the doors, the bottom of the quarter, and the rocker area probably had some extensive rust at some time, and were reconstructed with some steel and "non-steel" material.

[ Top ] – The top material and fabric seems to be in good condition. It is a little "off white" and has some minor spots, but it should clean up well with a good wash. There is a little loose spot in the beading on the right rear, but overall it is a good, useable top that you can use for many years.  The top motor was cleaned and the entire mechanism lubed a couple months ago. The power top seems to work fine. First you unlatch it, then push it up about 6", then the motors take over from there. It seems to go up and down well.

The rear window shows a little wear but is pretty clear and in fairly nice condition. Chad did not operate the zipper, but it appears to be in good working condition. It looks very dry and could use some lubrication, but will probably work fine.

[ Trunk ] – The trunk is nicely finished with high quality carpet and good stitching. It looks neat with the matching cover over spare tire and wheel. It shows really well.

[ Chrome/Bright Work ] – The front and rear bumpers are in very nice condition, showing very little wear. The 2 front and left rear bumper guards have some wear and minor pitting. The chrome on the grill is in fairly nice shape – it does not show too much age, but does have normal pitting. The headlight covers also look good. The strips around the windows show normal wear and pitting on the chrome (see pics).

[ Glass ] – The glass on the side windows looks nice and clear without any cracking, except for the driver’s vent window. It has a crack in the corner, and has some delamination.  The windshield looks good, although the passenger side has a fair amount of wiper wear.

[ Interior ] – The cloth on the seats and side door panels is in nice condition, and shows very little wear, except maybe slightly faded on the top edges (barely noticeable). The darker material is maroon colored vinyl, which is also in nice condition, with very little wear showing.

The carpet looks like a high grade carpet that was probably installed fairly recently. It needs to be cleaned by the driver’s foot area. The headliner is intact and in nice condition. The visors seem good and solid. The dash is very striking with lots of chrome. Most of the chrome is in nice condition with just light pitting here and there.

Tires and Wheels – All 4 tires are Poly 4 Remington, size G78 – 15. They look very fresh without any signs of aging, deterioration, or cracking, and all seem to have about 7/32 tread. Other than a couple of ¼" dimples in right rear, all 4 hub caps seem to be in very nice condition. Even the black Chrysler script looks good.

[ Engine Area ] – In general, the engine area looks pretty much untouched; similar to how it was manufactured originally. It may have a few alterations (addition of fuel filter and line added, possibly new wire for horn, few new components, etc), but other than that, looks fine.

[ Mechanical / Test Drive ] – Chad tested the following items, and all were working at the time of the listing:

·        Emergency brake

·        Tail lights (left and center working properly, right rear doe not seem to work)

·        Headlights (low and high beam)

·        All 4 windows crank up and down smoothly

·        Heater seems to be working fine

·        Both vent windows work fine, except left has a loose hinge pin 

·        Gauges on dash (amps show slight charge on acceleration, oil pressure  is around 50 lbs on warm idle, closer to 60 with light acceleration,  engine temperature seems to be around 160 degrees when warm)

·        Non original miles car

The turn signals, horn, radio, and trip odometer do not seem to be working.
