1964 Chrysler Newport Newport
| |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This is a beautifully kept and virtually 100% original 1964 Chrysler Newport. Although Virgil Exner referred to this car as a “Plucked Chicken” I think he was a little disgruntled after leaving Chrysler....but just maybe. In spite of Exner’s displeasure, this car has some great attributes including the art deco dash. The instrument panel is an absolutely gorgeous design, reminiscent of a European sports car. (In fact that’s where the influence came from). The deep burgundy interior is a beautiful contrast to the straight laced business man beige exterior. You‘d never expect this color combo looking from the outside. Although the odometer shows 40k I’m sure its probably 140k, but you’d never know it driving it down the road. With a swept windshield and curved frameless wing windows the 64 still had some carry over design flares from the Forward Look Exner era. The large entry and exit design of the doors is also a carryover. From the chrome headliner bows to the integral chrome passenger grab handle built right into the dash to the backlit chrome pushbuttons and bezels on the dash this car has a feel and quality of a 50’s designed car, unlike the cheesy plastic and vinyl interiors Chrysler was putting out just a few short years later. There's no cracks in the dashpad, no pitted chrome and no scratches in the paint. The dash is perfect. The 361 V-8 coupled to the pushbutton (Detroit typewriter) 727 Torque flight transmission motors down the road effortlessly. No pinging, no knocking, no smoking, no hesitation or stumbling. One mash of the throttle kicks the trans into passing gear and leaves all others behind in her wake….pun intended. You want options on a 1964 model car? No problem. Optional Power Brakes help you slow her down quickly when you see the Red and Blues in the anti glare rear view mirror. Optional Power Steering helps you in and out of those pesky parking stalls in busy downtown. Speaking of which, the Optional fender mounted Remote Mirror comes in handy too. And with the optional Six Way Power Seat you get to decide whether you roll like a gangster or sit upright like Grandma. The optional parking brake light reminds you to release the emergency brake before proceeding on your journey out of town. You want to drive this classic in inclement weather? No problem, with the Optional Rear Window Defogger you‘ll see all the other cookie cutters on the road out that rear picturesque window. Looking out the swept windshield is peer pleasure too. Watching those beautifully chromed wiper arms swinging inboard towards one another is definatley old school. If you bump into something in the parking lot, don’t fret, cause the Optional and rarely seen Front Bumper Guard will take the brunt, as will the rears. The car is also equipped with the standard Parking Lever, which unlike earlier models, strictly relied on the e-brake to hold them in place. UGH. The exterior stainless trim on this car is absolutely gorgeous. It shows better in person than it does in the pics. Often, its the other way around. I’m sure its been removed and polished at some point in its life, unless this is truly a 40k mileage car. The chrome trim on the top of the dying fins of yesteryear is also brilliant. The grill is show quality, as are the headlight bezels and hood wind split molding. With the exception of a repaint on the right rear quarter and passenger door. (Parking lot incident) and a new front N.O.S. quality front seat cover the car is all original. I have the original sales paperwork from new. (The car sold new in Tacoma, Washington). The original spare tire and jack are still mounted in the cancer free trunk. These items are easily accessible at night thanks to the Optional Trunk Light. The factory trunk mounted cardboard and jacking instructions are still intact and are free from water damage. All in all, this is a show worthy original car that can be entered into the Unrestored Class at your local car show and net you some hardware. It draws attention everywhere I go in it and it is an absolute pleasure to drive. With the exception of some minor blistering at the rear window and the drivers side quarter (See pics) this car is basically perfect. The rust you see is very minimal! Keep in mind this is an unrestored car. The rocker panels, fenders, floor boards and trunk have no cancer whatsoever. I also have approximately $3k in receipts in recent work including all new brakes at all four corners, engine was removed, detailed and re-painted. Additionally, the carb was rebuilt, and all new tune-up parts were installed. This car starts every single time no matter how warm or cold outside. The choke works as designed. No missing or hijacked parts. Items not working on the car are the fuel gauge and the radio, although I can hear static through the speaker. Zero Feedback bidders are prohibited from bidding. If you bid, your bid will be cancelled. If you have any further questions please ask. If you want custom pics, please ask, as I always oblige. Thank you and good luck. $500 Pay Pal deposit due within 48hrs. Full balance due within 10 days. Reserve price will not be disclosed. You know how much $$ you want to spend. Let that be your guide. No, this is not a "California black plate car" but no one cares. Just like no one cares how much one sold for at Barrett Jackson. This is a real world priced car.
