DESCRIPTION
John DeLorean set out to turn the car manufacturing industry upside down with innovative ideas and new manufacturing methods. With a little help from some friends, the first prototype rolled out of the design studio in 1976 with the first production model following behind in 1981. Of the 8,583 cars produced, it is estimated that more than 6,500 still exist. The DeLorean DMC 12 was and still is a cult classic in American Pop culture with a large devoted following keeping the memory and genius of its inventor alive.
This handsome 1981 DeLorean hails from Illinois where it spent all of its life with only two careful owners! Boasting an exceptionally clean, straight stainless steel body, and a very clean well-kept interior, this great looking car has traveled only 16,849 miles from new! Still sporting its original motor, aluminum wheels, leather interior, glass and more, this rare example is a phenomenal find! Options include 2.8L V6 engine, 5-speed manual transmission, air conditioning, original AM/FM radio, leather-wrapped interior and steering wheel, rear defrost, 4-wheel power disc brakes, power windows, power locks, and 15” painted alloy wheels. It will come complete with original owner’s manual, original Charter Member DeLorean Motor Club of America membership card from the first owner; tire guide, radio and battery warranty booklets, national dealer list, maintenance manual, and complete Technical & Parts manual! This exceptionally early built vehicle (June 1981) has one very rare feature not commonly found on other DMC-12’s, which is the flip-up stainless steel fuel door. Most examples require the entire hood to rise up allowing access to the fuel cap, but this is not the case for early production cars. Also included will be 6 extra oil filters, a CD with a fuel system diagram, and an original DMC Stainless Steel Car Care Kit still in the box! Is has been freshly tuned with a new set of Bosch Platinum plugs and ready to enjoy. Please contact us for more information regarding this very special vehicle!
