1973 Dodge Challenger Rallye
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Up for sale is my 73 Challenger Rallye. Its an original B5 blue 4 speed car with a ton of new parts. I bought it last summer and spent lots of money on upgrades but another car I have been wanting has just gone up for sale and I need sell this first. Everything mentioned as new is only a couple months old if that. The car has a Mopar Magnum 360 Crate motor, the 380 horsepower version (Single plane manifold, big roller cam etc.) and it runs great. It has a new 650 double pumper carb fed with a Holley blue electric pump and is properly plumbed with 3/8" line with AN fittings throughout. Ignition is a new Mallory build Mopar distributor, Mopar chrome ignition box and accel coil. It has nice Ceramic Coated Hedman headers. The exhaust is a 2.5" mandrel bent X-pipe, flowmaster mufflers with turn downs right before the axle. The exhaust was built so that the mufflers could be replaced with TA/AAR mufflers with side exhaust but never got that far. The car sounds mean, its got a healthy rumble at idle and really turns heads when you put your foot in it. When I bought it, it had a 727 auto but still had the factory pedal setup and 4 speed hump. I installed a freshly rebuilt & restored close ratio 4 speed behind a brand new flywheel and new Centerforce Dual Friction Clutch. I bought a brand new Hurst pistol grip stick & boot and had shift rods made from 1/2" steel rod with Teflon lined ball joint ends for zero slop. I just bought a custom made balanced 3” steel driveshaft with a new slip yoke and solid joints. The rear has a 3.91 gear ratio and a good suregrip posi. The torquey Magnum motor, tight 4 speed and 3.91 gears makes for some fun spirited driving. The suspension is mostly stock except for the KYB shocks all around. It has the .92” torsion bars and Rallye sway bars (rear needs to be re-installed). The Front disks have just been been upgraded from 10.95” to the high performance 11.75" setup with new pin calipers and all new components, hoses and bearings. The car has manual brakes with a new 1" bore aluminum Master cylinder. It has a line lock & adjustable proportioning valve installed. The frame is tied together with weld-in subframe connectors. I bought a new power steering pump and pressure hose. The interior is original blue with two tone blue buckets which are in great shape considering their age. The drivers seat bottom does have a rip down underneath the seat back. The door panels are typical 35 year old E-body parts, sun faded but the previous owner sprayed them a metallic blue. I was planning on replacing them. The carpet is the origianl carpet and survived very well but is a little faded. The car has a 3 speaker dash with a cap and has the Rallye cluster setup. The speedo reads right, the tach reads a little high. The fuel gage works and so do the Ammeter, water temp and oil pressure but I disconnected them when I installed an aftermarket gauge console with water temp, oil pressure and volts under the dash. The clock is broken as usual. My plan was to install Autometer gauges in the dash in the future. The steering wheel is a brand new reproduction tuff wheel from Dales Cuda Shop. The carhas a pioneer CD player. It is a non A/C car and I just completely rebuilt the heater box with a new heater core and a full seal and gasket kit from Detroit Muscle Technologies, it works great. The Viper GTS blue looks real good, I would guess its about 5-6 years old. Whoever painted the car did a real nice job with the paint finish. No orange peel or runs, no metallic zebra stripes, it shines nicely. It’s base clear with some minor scuffs etc. but nothing bad. There are a couple of spots where some bubbles in the paint popped up. The most noticeable is small areas on the top of the fenders in the usual area and also on the trunk filler panel. The bottom of the front of the doors have small bubbles and also in between the rocker panel and the rear wheel well but the painter coated the lower doors and rocker area with 3M Rocker Shutz which makes it hard to see. The frame rails & torsion bar cross member is very solid on the car and so is the underside. The drivers footwell has had a steel patch correctly welded in. The trunk floor has been repaired and while a new trunk pan would look nicer, what was done does the job and is solid. The '73 "battering ram" bumpers have been pulled in closer to the body with early style brackets to where they should be like on a 72. The front bumper is original but nice enough to not need replacement yet. The rear is an early style reproduction bumper I recently bought. The flip top gas cap is new as are the headlight bezels. The car has a 70 style go-wing and T/A style front spoilers. I have a T/A style rear spoiler too that goes with the car. The glass is all in good shape and its factory tinted glass too. All in all this car is a very presentable Musclecar ready for local shows and road trips. I did not drag race the car but I would imagine mid 12's when fully tweaked and tuned. The car is mechanically sound and reliable, drive it anywhere, drive it home. It runs great and handles just as good. Please feel free to ask any questions, request particular photos or make arrangements to come by and see the car in person. The car is currently registered in Connecticut and has a clear title history. The state of Connecticut does not issue paper titles for vehicles older than 1981 and the Connecticut DMV will not issue one for any reason. The car will be sold with an official state of Connecticut bill of sale only. If your state issues titles to 1973 vehicles, they should be familiar with Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles non-title policy and still issue you a title against the Conn bill of sale. Transport is the buyers responsibility, but I will assist in any way I can though.
