WILDTHINGS Car Collection is pleased to present another cool vintage automobile for purchase.
This bold design is the product of the ever-identifiable Dodge division of
Chrysler Corporation. We have decided to sell a few more cars from the collection
and this auction is a great opportunity for the savvy collector.
The 1966 Dodge was a milestone in MOPAR history as it
introduced the Charger, which shared much of the aesthetics of the ever-popular
Coronet. It was the final year for the big-block 361, first optional in 1958.
Today, the Coronet 500 is among the most sought after Mid-Sixties Dodges and a
great looking design. A strong bid is all that stands between you and this
beautiful example. I have driven this car quite a bit around town and in the country. It runs and drives very well and is great fun with the top down as it always gets lots of looks from others.
OUR Coronet 500 Convertible:
This Coronet 500 is one of the most solid 60’s MOPARs that
we have had around in a while. The ownership history is known to show a Ms.
Jenson of Tucson, AZ as far back as 1984, then a Ms. Nelson also of Tucson in
the early 90s. The car was later purchased by Mr. Naylor of Michigan who owned
the car for more than a decade. He took it with him when he moved to Tennessee
a few years ago, but was soon unable to properly care for the convertible. The
car ended up as part of a museum in Birmingham from which we purchased it
earlier this year. The build sheet is included with the purchase and is more
than 90% legible.
The drive train and
everything under the hood appears to be largely original and presentable. The
motor is a 361 cubic inch V-8 engine with 9.0:1 compression rated at 265
horsepower fed by a 2-barrel carburetor. It is believed to be the original unit
that still runs and drives and starts easily and without hesitation. The
Torqueflite transmission seems to function properly without any issues. The
brakes are also in great shape. All drive train and suspension components are
believed to be the originals. Exceptions include a new steering gear box,
brakes, starter, shocks, gas tank and exhaust. The frame and all components on
the underside appear to be very solid and serviceable. There does not appear to
be any collision or structural damage or repair.
The Q-Code Red paint
is the color as when new and was applied prior to the Tennessee owner. It is now showing its age. It
has no signs of rust repair but has chips and flakes as expected from age and
use. All body panels are believed to be the original non-collision parts. The chrome and brightwork are very nice quality and probably original. The doors open
and close well. The glass and trim is presentable with no major problems. The
white power top is still very usable and functions well. It has some pinholes near
the center folding mechanism and will ultimately need repair or replaced. The rear
window is still quite clear and zips down properly prior to folding the top.
The interior and
upholstery appears to be all-original in appearance. The carpets have probably
been replaced and the glove box liner is new. The radio is not functional, nor
is the gas gauge (probably the sending unit). The speedometer seems to be
accurate, but the odometer is not turning.
Overall, it is an honest quality automobile that has been used
sparingly by its stewards. The overall presentation and driving experience is
that of an above average car of the era. It is a great candidate for a full
show-quality restoration or as a great collector’s item ready for enjoyment in parades or on the open road. This car may be
seen and driven prior to auction end- Other advertising may find it a new home
before this auction ends.
