1970 Dodge Super Bee coronet
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Up for sale is a 1970 Super bee ,I've owned this car for approx. 8 years & in that time it has been garage kept w/ intentions of properly restoring it. However, you guys know how it is, i've built many cars during that period but never did get the Bee done,What a bummer !
Anyway, this is a real deal WM21N0A, 1970 383 4/spd B5 Blue Super Bee w/ a RamCharger hood & around 8X,XXX orig. miles, not 180,000. I have the original build sheet & data tag. The VIN #'s all match the rad. support & trunk lip.

So,now that you have all the vitals, let's move on.. When the Bee came to me the orig. 383, 4 spd trans & 8 3/4 rear were gone. In their place was a 440-6 out of a 69 1/2 runner along w/ the matching Dana 3.54 sure grip rear & a 727 auto trans. from another car. O.k.,figured that get some attention, the 440-6 i sold to a friend who had a real 69 1/2 6 barrel car w/ out a matching engine. The Dana rear, as you can tell (pics) is still under the Bee, but the 727 took a hike !!
What you now see in the car is a 69 casting steel crank 440 w/ a right & proper A-833 4 spd back in the Super Bee.
The specs on the 440 are as follows;
BLOCK = steel crank 69 casting date
* balanced rotating assembly (crank,rods,pistons)
* block cooked, cleaned & magged
* new cam bearings
* block head surface milled (decked)
* mains were align bored
* cylinders bored .030 over
* TRW forged flat-tops (10.1 comp. ratio)
* high volume oil pump
* windage tray
* hemi chrome, rebuilable style fuel pump
* high torque mini starter
Cam

Heads
516 closed chambers,milled, cooked,cleaned,blasted,hardened seats,3 angle valve job, new crane valve springs, locks etc..
Extras
* new 750 Demon mech. sec. (double pumper) carb
* nos Holley street dominator intake
* new electronic ign. kit w. harness
* new Hooker comp. headers w/ heat wrap
* 26 " radiator w/ shroud & clutch fan (rad. support was NOT cut)
* nos mopar alternator (dual spade/plug)
4 SPEED A 833 TRANS
* New/Rebuilt 69 unit from Passon performance
* shift forks have been upgraded from brass to steel
* new shifter mounting plate (billet aluminum)
* Hurst super comp. shift. mech.
* orig. Hurst Pistol Grip lever
* new billet steel flywheel
* new aluminum bell housing
* new clutch fork
* new fork boot
* new Mcleod clutch (organic)
* new Mcleod pressure plate (borg & beck style, 2400-2600 static pressure)
As you can see the drivetrain is new/fresh, The engine & trans have around 3000 miles on them, & run great. I broke them in w/ my 69 runner & this set up will run 12.80's w/ 3.91 gears w/ no trouble. There is about $8000 in the engine/trans alone.
The Super Bee is running & driving, but not road worthy or inspected (1992 was last year) at this point. I've have installed new front brake lines (master cylinder to prop valve to left/right wheel cylinders) front brakes work, rear brakes not hooked up need lines ran. Headlights,brakelights,turn signals all work (need a few bulbs here & there)
The car has power steering, I did not put the pump back on though, just looped the hose at the box, I have all the original parts. If i keep it it will be converted to manual steering.
I'm currently running the car off a white 3 gallon jug (see underhood pic), the original gas tank is in place & maybe usable but i never dropped it to check, it does not have any visable holes, of course would need new lines ran to engine.
The Super Bee dose have exhaust & flowmaster style welded mufflers, but no tailpipes. Again,just trying to be clear on the condition, you are not going to be able to get it inspected w/ out spending more time on the brakes, exhaust & lighting, however if I have the car by spring it will be easily roadworthy.
O.k. well let's go over the body,
As you can see in the pics, the car is structurally solid, the frame rails, torsion bar mounts, leaf spring mounts etc. are in great shape, no serious rust issues !! The under hood/engine compartment paint is the original factory B5 Blue, I know because i chemically stripped off 3 layers of a horrid Chevy black-out job,still visable on bottom of hood !! So as you can seen the car has no bubbling at all on the shock tower areas & the battery tray or area underneath are not rotted/ rusted out. There is some paint peeling & surface rust (see pics) but no rust/sheetmetal repair needed !
The floorpans are very solid too, the rears are nice, the pass. front has a few tiny issues, easy fix & the drivers side has a few maybe dime size holes, nothing major & definately dose not require floorpan replacement. As you may have noticed I have replaced the 4 spd. hump, this was due to a previous owner removing the hump when they converted to an automatic.
(She raced the Bee at beaver springs dragway in PA.during the mid 80's running 13.00 w/ the 440-6 & 3.54's) note the centerline sticker on 1/4 glass & BSD bumper stickers !!
The Hump is a steel repo. from brewers & is rivited in at the moment (should be tacked & seamsealed then). I have the original shifter boot, but no trim ring.
The trunk floor, has some surface rust & a few holes along the center (see pics) but again, I would not cut it out, just fix what's needed as it's always better to retain as much of the original car as possible.
The exterior Body;
The Bee has been repainted once around 1990, while the guy I bought it from had it, he was not very happy w/ the job, due to the B5 peeling off in areas (see pics), The Bee ended up w/ some dark blue brush paint here & there.
The car has all it's original sheetmetal, & from what i can tell has never been in any serious accidents, the lines are straight & the cars does not have many if any dings or dents.
The front fenders are very nice shape (mounting tabs,etc..) The Doors are good shape too, the pass. side has two small bubbles at bottom front corner.
The hood is straight & clean except for the typical bubbling on the nose of the 70's ( I actually poked a small dime size hole, see pic) The scoops are in excellent shape & All the original Ramcharger ductwork is included & completely usable, I do not have the aircleaner assembly.
Trunklid, is very solid. The lid edge is clean no hole or serious dents or any other issues I see.
The 1/4 panels are of course the worst part of the car, However we've all seen worse. I would not even think of replacing the entire 1/4 panels on this car, It takes more time but, in the end these originals can be fixed properly.
The rear suspension/ wheelhousings have not been cut or modified in any way, the rear 15" Cragar wheels & tires 29.5 x13.5 hoosiers are off my mini-tubbed Demon, but fit the stock Super Bee perfectly !! Gotta love those 70 B body fenderwells !!
Wheels & tires
The Cragar S/S wheels on the rear of the Super Bee DO NOT go with the car they are off my Demon (check my other ebay auction). I am including the 15" Aluminum american racing wheels in the pic (the rear tires are weathercracked) & if the buyer wants i'll include a set of (4) 15' steelies (2) 15 x 7 & (2) 15 x 6
I have an extra 70 ramcharger hood that goes w/ the sale !! Plus,I have the original am radio, heater box assembly, kick panels etc..
There's always more to say, so if you have questions please feel free to ask, or if anyone wants to see the car let me know !!
I'll store the car in the garage for up to 30 days till buyer makes shipping arrangements, however all funds must be completely cleared before the car leaves, no execptions !! Also, would like to have full payment received within 10 business days after closing of auction, of course cash in person is preferred, but again if paying w/ cashiers check it must clear my bank before car leaves. Sorry, for repeating this subject, but i've had some payment issues in the past here & not looking forward to repeating them.
Check my feedback 100% positive w/ 99% relating to ebay motors !!
Thank you !! On Nov-01-09 at 13:44:37 PST, seller added the following information: Here's 2 links for pics of passenger & drivers side 1/4 panels, just copy & paste to see them. I'll get a few more later, but this will give everyone a better look at the 1/4's. thanks again !! http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab228/Mprmetal/100_3247.jpg http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab228/Mprmetal/100_3245.jpg On Nov-01-09 at 23:28:23 PST, seller added the following information: O.K. everyone here's some more 1/4 panel pics. plus pics of around front & rear glass, very nice not rusted out. same deal copy & paste. One more thing the actual exact milage on the bee is 84,808 miles NOT 184,808 !! http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab228/Mprmetal/100_3248.jpg http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab228/Mprmetal/100_3244.jpg http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab228/Mprmetal/100_3258.jpg http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab228/Mprmetal/100_3256.jpg http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab228/Mprmetal/100_3254.jpg http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab228/Mprmetal/100_3255.jpg On Nov-02-09 at 00:11:40 PST, seller added the following information: Hey everyone, i keep forgetting but want to add that according to the Dodge & Plymouth "Red Book" 1970 Super Bee production #'s are as follows 3,640 coupes, 10,614 hardtop, a total of 14,254 cars, that in itself is a low number, considering the one you are looking at is a coupe Not a hardtop !! which you B body guys know the coupes are a much stronger body structure, due to the post "pillar", the hardtop 4 speed cars almost always crack at the upper door jamb area, the coupes do not. thanks again for all the interest & bidding you guys & ladies are doing, if the reserve is met, i hope she goes to a great mopar home, recieving a full on resto !! On Nov-06-09 at 07:32:39 PST, seller added the following information: Hello again, to all bidders/viewers one last link , a pic of fender tag for anyone who may be curious !! Remember i also have an intact build sheet to verify all codes & options. http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab228/Mprmetal/100_3277.jpg | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
