This is a good condition, hard to find, early style fuel tank for the FIAT and SEAT 850 Spider. This is the type of tank that doesn't have the evaporative emmision fittings at the upper corners (found in USA cars from '70-73). This item will fit all USA cars from '67-69 and nearly all non-USA Spiders. The later USA cars can use this item but it will not be exactly like the unit that comes out of the car and the correct cap will be needed. It was carefully removed from a '68 Spider (817cc USA model) with only about 100K miles (130K kilometers) showing on the odometer. The car had spent many years sitting in storage and was left there by the previous owner, who passed away. It came out of the car without dings or dents and had just a very slight bit of surface rust on the outside. The sponge rubber donut that surrounds the filler neck had caused some rust pitting but not very bad. The paint was even still pretty good. Checking the inside, I found only a little rust. The rust is light, surface type rust, not the flaking away stuff that plugs carbs and fuel filters. There was no evidence of rust in the gas that drained out and it didn't have the telltale orange tint. If it were going into my car, I wouldn't be concerned. There was virtually no sand, sediment or varnish in the bottom. Very clean, by 850 standards. So many 850s have rusted tanks that cause so many carb problems that this is a real find. It (obviously) had no leaks.
The gas cap would be the early style Fiat item, without internal threads. This is the vented cap that twists on with only a quarter turn. The fuel gauge sending unit is not included but available. The final photo show a view inside the tank(thru the sender's hole) but doesn't show the bottom. The tank was washed off, sanded and painted, so it looks pretty nice. Good ones almost never appear on ebay. All those that do usually have moderate-serious rust which causes ongoing nightmares with fuel pump and carb problems. This is a rare find and far more people need these than there are good ones to sell. Use the BIN feature if you're looking for a good one with minimal rust, no vanish and a 'like new' look outside. Payment must be made within 72 hours of auction close. Due to recent changes in EBay policy, in most cases, only PayPal can be accepted as payment. Now, I can't even mention the types of payments that aren't acceptable so plan on paying with ONLY PAYPAL unless you will be picking up your item. If you cannot comply with these terms, please do not bid. I reserve the right to cancel any bid or end any auction at anytime. Seller issued feedback is now a joke...please don't ask.
In most cases, Your item will be packaged and shipped with 3 business days of payment. However, there are many exceptions to this. Special orders, multiple items and items of excessive size or weight can all slow the shipping process. Frequent weather delays arise in fall and winter months.
In most cases, USPS is my shipper of choice. Some heavy/large items may be shipped to domestic locations via UPS or Greyhound Express. I will not ship FedEx! Insurance is available (but not included) for all shipments except 1st class mail. Seller cannot be expected to compensate buyers for lost items when buyer elects to not insure the shipment. INSURANCE and TRACKING ARE NOT AVAILABLE FOR USPS 1ST CLASS DOMESTIC OR INTERNATIONAL SHIPMENTS! If you desire insured shipment or tracking information, please opt to ship your item USPS Priority International delivery. Italian customers should never use 1st Class shipping due to problems with the Italian Postal Service. Do so at YOUR OWN risk!!!
In general, returns are not accepted. Exceptions may be made on a case by case basis but these are only made for situations where there is some significant flaw in the listing's description. Application information provided in listing may be flawed or incomplete. Buyers should confirm suitability of product for their intended use prior to bidding. Payment must be received within 72 hours (PayPal) or 7 days (mailed payments). Failure to do so will result in the winning bid being being nullified and item will be re-listed or offered to the next highest bidder. Orders are processed and shipped only after cleared payments are received. Some forms of PayPal payment can take up to 10 days to clear (e-checks). Most shipments will be delivered to shipper within 5 business days or less. However, especially large or heavy items can take longer. Occasionally, delays will occur due to weather or unexpected circumstances. Special order items can also delay the shipping of auction items.
Feedback & DSR Ratings Feedback posting will become a lower priority due to changes in Ebay policy. Buyer's feedback ratings are now irrelevant because they can only receive a positive rating. Formerly, there was a trust issue associated with the mailing of payments. Now, such payments violate Ebay policy making the posting of positive buyer feedback a waste of time. Any purchase that is paid for is considered a positive transaction. However, it is understood that the transaction is not complete until the BUYER receives their item and acknowledges this by the posting of feedback. REQUESTS THAT BUYERS FEEDBACK BE POSTED WILL BE IGNORED SO PLEASE DON'T ASK.
DSR ratings (Detailed Sellers Report- those little stars ) are now Ebay's primary tool in evaluating sellers performance. Here's a quick explination of what those little star ratings really mean: Powersellers are required to maintain a rating of 4.5 stars in each area. The Primary benefit to maintaining that Powerseller status is a discount in EBay fees. Causing a Powerseller to be terminated from the program causes their expenses to rise. Rising expenses cause a need to increase sale prices. Guess what happens the next time you need to buy something from that seller? You pay more!
Additionally, all sellers must maintain a DSR rating above 4.1. If not, their ability to sell is terminated. This monthly average is monitored on a daily basis so every rating counts. Selling priveledges are removed on a daily basis as the 30 day average is a 'rolling average'. Unless you are totally dissatisfied with a seller or their product, the only sesible rating you should give is 5 stars. WHY? Because a seller who does't maintain 4.1 stars in each category will no longer be a seller. He just disappears! It's important to keep all virtually all sellers active because competition keeps prices low. In some cases, a few sellers supply the entire world with rare items. Losing one may mean that you pay more money or can't find the item you need. A big base of sellers insures a large group of buyers, making everybody happy. So, each rating of 4 stars (or less) is a vote to eliminate a seller. Just because your item arrived a little slower than you'd like or wasn't quite as nice as you'd hoped is not a good reason to lose the ability to ever buy from him again. Don't shoot yourself in the foot, give 5 stars in every category to all sellers. Remember, the fair market has a way to deal with less than perfect transaction...you shop elsewhere. Don't put sellers out of business. Someday, you just might need what they have.
Since Ebay has removed the sellers ability to post honest feedback, the posting of feedback is considered a courtesy, not a required part of a successful transaction. Please tell Ebay to return to the old (fair) system !
