1948 Ford

This car has been my Father in Law's pet project for about ten years now. He bought this as a rusted chassis and boxes of parts, and slowly in his spare time he has built it up into a driving motor car. He has unfortunately now lost his job and will not be able to complete this car. His loss may well be your gain. It is a 1948 Ford Coupe sedan with a 1946 V8 flathead producing some 90hp. All the running gear, brakes, transmission etc were refurbished within the last two years. The engine was not rebuilt (it did not need it!) but everything around ir was disassembled and cleaned or replaced with new parts. It has new glass, radiator, hoses water pumps and battery. It has been rewired to 12v electrics with an alternator. (Original generators will be included in the sale). He also has a lot of spare parts which will be included such as spare heads, a transmission and manifolds. This car is complete excepting bumpers and a couple of small chrome trim pieces. The only things that this car needs are bodywork, paint and an interior. The body was sanded and put into primer about two years ago and nothing has been done with it since. Subsequently, a light layer of rust has started to show through on most of the body. This should be easy to get rid of with another sanding. Because of the age of the car, the body is thin is some places and although most of the major body panels look OK, there may be some replacements needed under further investigation. However, this is a solid car underneath it all. The interior seat springs are still all there and they have been covered with a thick blanket to enable this to be driven. However, there are no interior panels in the vehicle and it would need a complete interior including header. This car has been driven around the local town of Mount Dora, Fl for the last two years and it goes, stops and steers as it should. It has never let him down or had any mechanical issues. It is tight with no leaks and does not burn any oil. We do not know what the mileage is as this is not the original motor or running gear. The reserve is set ridiculously low for the amount of man-hours that have been put into this vehicle but needs must....We have a clear Florida title and some manuals and associated stuff which will go too. Obviously, due to the age of the vehicle there are no warranties expressed or implied. Buyer will be responsible for pickup or shipping but we will do whatever we can to assist a smooth transition to the new owner. A $500 deposit will be required within three days and the balance within seven or on pickup or shipping (whichever is sooner;-) If you would like more detailed pictures please let me know as on only had my phone on me yesterday when he decided to sell. Any questions, please email me and I will get the answers as quick as I can. Thanks for looking
On Nov-07-09 at 12:17:31 PST, seller added the following information: UPDATE: A lot of potrmtial bidders have been asking for upgraded pictures and ones showing the underneath. I have uploaded these for your perusal. While I was over there taking the pics, he showed me photographs of how they stripped the chassis to bare bones, and rebuilt it with some interesting pictures of before and after. The body was taken off completely and everything was renewed. The car had not been started for about two months so this morning we checked the fluids, gave it a blast of choke and she started right up and ran like a champ. Sounds great too due to the shortie exhausts. I also saw a bunch of parts that go with it including all of the rubber seals for doors, trunk etc. You will note that in one of the pictures the passenger side door bottom is missing, eroded away but the drivers side is fine, go figure! For anybody who knows their bodywork stuff, this is not too hard a fix. There is a lot of parts that have not been perfectly put back on the car yet because he was going to get it painted and figured he would have to strip it down anyhow so things like side windows will need to be aligned better before locking them down. The underneath is really clean as you can see from the pictures. Thanks for looking. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
