NOT a “Shay” Conversion

3

Wouldn’t it be nice of you could have the best of both worlds?

For instance; Say you could combine the classic look of a genuine Model “A” with the smooth, safe ride of modern-day car AND have all the utilitarian benefits of pick-up truck? More than likely, you’d have to buy 3 vehicles……That is, until now!

6

Feast your eyes on THE most unique ’31 Ford Pick-up on the planet!

7

No, this is NOT a fiberglass “Shay” replica. This is a genuine, STEEL bodied ’31 with a updated drive train & suspension!

8

When was the last time you saw a classic Model “A” cruising at freeway speeds?

9

Never?

10

Well, THIS ONE can be driven at freeway speeds with NO CONCERN as to steering response or sudden stops.

11

This Pick-up looks entirely “stock” with the wire wheels in place but meets today’s need for economy, dependability and traffic flow.

12

No more taking the “slow-lane” or “side-roads” to the beach or the mountains!

13

With a few blemishes in the paint, (see photos) this is certainly not a “trailer queen” but much, MUCH better…

32

The perfect daily driver.

55

As you approach this truck, you’ll be “thrown-back” to another time. When you drive it, you’ll be “thrown-back” in your seat with a smile for ear to ear! So hold you’re your hat folks, you’re in for a REAL TREAT.

54

If you’ve been out there driving or shopping for a classic Model “A”, you’ve probably seen variable cornucopia of junkyard assembled, "Frankenstein mobiles".

56

Trucks that are either rust buckets or are over customized with creaky, fiberglass bodies that rattle apart, suspensions that’ll shake the fillings from your teeth and drive trains that’ll throw a trail of oil, smoke and engine parts a mile behind you.

57

It'd be a nice surprise to find an example of the species that, despite having a completely stock body and look, is a completely dependable, utilitarian Pick-up truck that runs and drives like a late-model. The most likely place to unearth such a rare gem would be Southern California, with its mild climate and large number of affluent, collector car enthusiasts.

58

Such an amazing find is the miraculously well-built Model “A” Pick-up presented for auction here! This ’31 has led a charmed life and was only driven a few HUNDRED miles since being completely rebuilt.

59

Its owner is a local celebrity here with strong family bonds to the community that date back to the 1800’s. In fact, the street he lives on is named after him.  Needless to say, he has treated the car like his one and only child, never leaving the Golden State.

4

To claim this Pick-up is well kept would be an understatement. Not only is the body and interior immaculate; the engine, drive train, undercarriage and suspension are all a spectacle of modern ingenuity. Oh, and nearly dirt free.

Exterior:

5

Does a picture tell a thousand words? Well take a look at this clean, rust free body, undercarriage and trim. Everything speaks volumes about the loving care this ‘31 has received over the years and underscores the truck's Southern California provenance.

47

In fact, in its present condition, this fine example could be proudly DRIVEN straight to any local car show or Concourse d'Elegance and displayed in the “Driver Class Division” with pride and joy!

Interior:

The interior looks (and is) mostly stock with a vintage Model “A” Dash, hardware  and fuel shut-off lever at the original, rubber passenger floorboard location.

42

33

40

The Sunpro tachometer and vacuum gauge combined with Grant Steering Wheel and Electric Windshield Wiper bring modern attention to an otherwise archaic world.

43

Engine & Mechanical:

With only 1,882 miles (see photo of odometer) since a rebuilt, ’78 Ford Pinto engine with C-3 Transmission and all the above mentioned modern suspension components were installed, this Pick-up is in superior outstanding overall condition.

51

And there will be no apologies for being late or dropping fluid on the driveway!

The 2300cc 4-cylinder engine starts and idles smoothly in any weather and the automatic C-3 transmission shifts smoothly through the gears. Coolant temperature remains absolutely stable, with no hint of overheating even after extended runs at high speeds. Needless to say, the truck is mechanically as strong as it is cosmetically.

51

Superisingly, all the electrical works including all lights, gauges, blinkers and switches. Oh, and this truck won’t be leaving any oil for you to slip on, nor will you see any smoke in your rearview mirror!

Drivability:

Aided by improved suspension, front wheel disc brakes and brand new tires, you'll find that handling and braking is greatly improved over stock with no rattles, shakes, shimmies pulling or fading. The stock, Model “A” Exhaust preserves the original sound. How cool!

60

All in all, this 31 Ford provides a thoroughly smooth, safe and enjoyable driving experience.

Looking back, you realize that, somewhere in time, the chapter of the true utilitarian pick-up has ended. It has ended with the introduction of catalytic converters and engine management systems; it has ended with the worldwide popularity of power steering, power windows, and power-assisted thinking. Even in the US of A, it has ended with the Model “A”.

This 31 Ford Pick-up, however, is up to any task imaginable. It could serve as a show car, a "new" old car to relive the good old days, or simply as a reliable, fun daily driver during
ANY time of the year. At the very least, no matter where you go, you’ll see a smile on everyone’s face, including your own. To state it succinctly: It delivers on its promise!

Presently, we have a clear, 1931 California Title. Local sales tax and DMV transfer fees apply to residents in CA.

All questions must be answered and all inspections must be completed PRIOR TO BIDDING. Proof of insurance will be required for a test drive. This ’31 Ford is being sold in AS-IS CONDITION and comes with absolutely NO WARRANTIES EITHER EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED.

We are proud to have 100% POSITIVE FEEDBACK. Bid with confidence, knowing everything represented in this auction is accurate.

BIDDERS WITH ZERO OR NEGETIVE FEEDBACK MUST EMAIL US FOR APPROVAL PRIOR TO BIDDING OR THEIR BID WILL BE CANCELED.

This Pick-up’s present condition and buying terms have been described as accurately as possible. If you have ANY questions or want to bring a mechanic to inspect, please email us. You will receive a prompt response.

This is certainly one of the finest ‘31’s in the nation. To build this truck today would cost OVER $50 Grand.

This one however is offered here with No Reserve. What a great opportunity to purchase a prime example of one of the World's most acclaimed Model “A”s, the immortal 31 Ford which is sure to remain an outstanding investment for the winning bidder and a joy to drive for many years to come.

62

Thank you, good luck and HAPPY BIDDING!
