1966 Ford Mustang Fastback GT
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
True 1966 A-code Factory Optioned GT Fastback 2+2 This GT was purchased in 2004 with the intentions of restoring it back to original condition.I have neither the time,money or patience to do so properly.This pony is not for the "weekend warrior" or "do-it-yourselfer",it needs ALOT of attention that only a skilled restoration hobbyist or professional can give to this rare gem for the proper resoration and respect that it deserves.Much time and money will be required in order to revive this sleeping beauty,keep that in mind before bidding.The rear/trunk area is rusted fairly badly and will require the most attention in my opinion as far as metal work goes.According to the stamp on the block,the motor is from a 78 Lincoln 302(NOT original motor).This mustang needs a TOTAL restoration,therefore I will not list every dent,ding,rust spot etc.I have taken alot of photos to give a better understanding of what will be entailed.More photos can be taken apon request(contact me).I will answer all any any questions to the best of my knowledge promptly. This 4 speed manual A-code GT's original factory colors are the much sought after Raven Black exterior with Red Rosette interior(see decoded door data plate below).Settle for a cloned,fake GT or restore and own this original factory optioned stallion.These cars are getting very hard to find in restorable condition,this one is not even close to being too far gone. Identifying the true 1966 Fastback GT Identifying a real factory optioned GT is not as simple as decoding the VIN#.Nowhere in the VIN or door data plate # will you find any information specifying that it is a GT optioned car.This may be one reason they are so easy to clone or fake.I have spent hours researching,speaking with mustang restoration experts and examining this vehicle to make certain it is in fact a TRUE GT before I listed it on ebay.The most accurate ways to determine if the car was originally a GT has NOTHING to do with visual cosmetic add ons.For instance,the GT gascap on this mustang is a reproduction which was most likely replaced due to age.Visually this car looks to be a GT,but I will go into further detail below to more accurately determine this car to be the real deal with the not so obvious tell tale signs.I will not point out the obvious,but inaccurate visual aspects which would indicate this to be a GT. ALL factory optioned GT's MUST have the following: The VIN must have A or K as the 5th character/position(this is an A code 289 4v).There are special welded in reinforcements for dual exhaust hangers both under the rear seat(inside vehicle,approximatly 12"x6" moulded sheet metal,as seen in photo) and inside the rear frame rails,just ahead of the shackle for the rear hanger(correct,has both).Also the rear brake line hose bracket was relocated further outboard to allow for the dual exhaust(correct placement).The factory GT received a standard special handling package which included a faster steering box 16:1 ratio Tag HCC-AX or HCC-AW (this GT has HCC-AX,as seen in photo),and also a larger 13/16" diameter front sway bar(correct diameter).The factory GT also recived front disc brakes which included a larger single master cylinder with a clip on(not screw on) filler lid and special proportional valve,the brake pedal also had "Disc Brakes" on it(all correct and intact).Fog lamps were standard on 66 GT's(although sometime along this stangs life the horrizontal fog lights were removed).The factory GT recieved at least 1 stamped hole in the radiator support(this GT has 2,one on each side of radiator) for fog light wiring.The fog light circuit breaker is also mounted on the wiper bracket(correct placement).They also recieved fog light wiring and face mounted fog light switch(stamped "fog" in small letters not larger letters such as a reproduction) in lower left corner (2 male 1 femal connector)(all correct and intact). I am welcoming all information/questions/requests to further help you determine the legitimacy of this vehicleAs stated above,I will also take more photos apon request.You are also welcome to set up an appointment with me to examine the vehicle. The Door Data Plate correctly matches the VIN # stamped on the inner fender of this GT. Below is the decoded VIN#(warranty number) and decoded door data plate(misc. vehicle data)
